is the welded cover milled flat after welding? Most warp after welding and can be a bitch to seal up. The cast would be flat from the get go.

Yup, I got a Ruffstuff on mine and I love it. Never leaked either.

 

ruff stuff covers are milled and imo stronger than a cast cover.

i like the ruff stuff ones it gives you the option to weld to them if needed. i had part of my ram mounted on mine for a bit, and the drains are sweet

 

I like the ruff stuff ones better for the same reason hosejockey mention (welding to them). Also, they are stronger imo too. Cool article about this in the winter ed. of 4x4 Garage. Doesn't exactly use the ruff stuff cover but it does use a couple that are a lot like it (blue torch fab cover) and it does use the solid cover.

Go with ruffstuff - great company, excellent diff covers and other products, and top notch customer service.

 

We use the ruffstuff ones. They aren't the nicest looking IMHO, but they are priced well, super strong, and the owner is cool.

I've done both the welded and the kits, and both are fine. The flange is 3/8 and even after welding the cover on with the welder retarded hot I didn't need to surface the face to seal properly.

 

thats kind of surprising to hear. been thinking about getting a kit but worried about it warpping.

That's a stupid crazy deal !! I'm so tempted to order a couple cept im waiting and going with ruffstuff cause i wana do hydro assist and wana weld off the cover..

 

I saw the $65 deal on the SOLID covers and ordered a set for xmas . The price is right and my tinfoil 8.8 cover is bashed and leakin a little. Now.... if only santa could put them on for me before I get home.

I taqlked to dan in length about them, I needed one for my 14b after I shaved it. Not only was warping a possible issue, but after welding you have to clearance the cover for the bolts to sit flush.

I have a solid on the front and the ruff stuff on the rear.

 

I welded my ruffstuff D60 front. It warped .005" on the retarded hot setting. Clearing weld out from around the bolt circle was the hardest part and that's cause I'm dumb and just kept running a bead. Ruffstuff FTW.
