I'm in process of buying a house...I have called multiple inspection companies and filled out "request an estimate" forms on websites. I had one company take requested estimate as a go ahead to start the inspection / radon testing even though I never signed anything or finalized an inspection...I ended up going with a different company, but company A is demanding I pay them for the radon test that they have already started, 2 days before I was even going to have the inspection take place. WTF

Company A, Company B, and my realtor all worked it out so my out of pocket cost was the same. Company A is finishing the Radon testing and company B is going to do the full inspection.

Company A did however lose their "recommended" status with my realtors agency because of this stunt.

I still don't agree with him getting paid for something I didn't authorize, but as long as I'm not paying double at the end of the day I'll be OK.

Sounds like they had the realtors key box code and just went ahead and started because they were their 'recommended' vendor.

Out of curiosity, what does radon testing cost? We've never done it.

If you add it on to a general home inspection, roughly $75-100. If you get a stand alone test, $150-200. Most inspectors don't have their own equipment and have to rent it for the tests. What I found when getting quotes if if the test is just added onto a general inspection, they just tack on the rental costs without marking it up.

My wife and I are camping and riding in the Grayling / Frederick area this weekend. Anything neat we should check out? We plan on hammering out a couple hundred miles on the RZR, from Kalkaska to Higgins / Houghton Lake. Maybe St. Helen if we get adventurous.
Massive exercise going on up there right now, if you get up east of Waters you'll likely run into soldiers in the woods and if you make it out to the impact area you'll probably here some booms

The Little Man and I went for a quick rip last night, in our 7 miles of trails we found 9 trees down to hack up, and several extremely wet spots. Ended up cutting through the neighbors farm to the south of me on our way to the Bar to grab a couple burgers for dinner. We clocked around 10 Miles last night, a little muddy but still a great time with the boy.
