Anyone run 4.10's with 40's and not a lot of motor. I bought both axles for my buggy project with 4.10's cause I was trying to keep it budget friendly build. Its no longer a budget build :ROFLMAO: I'd rather not buy gears but if its going to be a total turd I may reconsider. My D300 has 4:1 low, puts my crawl ratio at 45:1. I've run 40:1 on 36s so I think crawl ratio will be fine for the time being.

But beyond crawling I dunno. I've got a manual shifter on my AW4 so I can hold any gear I want. So maybe I stay in low range and shift the trans to scoot around, extra wheel speed, etc. I think that's what I used to do in my old XJ...been so long I dont remember for sure.

My cousin is running my old 42’s iroks on steel beadlocks. He’s running 4.10’s in his axles with 4.0 aw4. It’s not ideal but it works. Locks it in low 1 and does fine for crawling, on a budget it works

Thanks for the feedback. Sounds a lot like what I remember doing with my XJ.

Regearing is going to add a bunch of time to the build too.
By percentage it’s probably less than 2% additional time. My 4.0/ax15/5.38 with a 2.62:1 low range was only good in 1st and 2nd. 1st to crawl, 2nd for wheelspeed because there wasn’t enough power for 3rd. Do the math, you may be close with 4:1 Tcase. High range will just be hard on the transmission with 4:10’s. Buggy will probably stay in low range anyway right?

Thanks for the feedback, sounds a lot like what I used to do with my XJ. It'll be nice this time to be able to select whatever gear I want. It probably will spend a majority of its time in low range. I plan on running it at the dunes too but not expecting it to much from it. Hopefully the suspension will be able to soak up enough that I can carry speed to get up hills. I'm just going to run it as is. I do have to transfer gears from one axle to another so that'll give me a chance to learn a few things.

Just add a Turbo :)
:ROFLMAO:

If I feel like I just gotta have power I'll consider re-gearing and/or a Jeep stroker build. I've got a couple LM7's at my disposal that need a home.

Also once I get this buggy done I need to see how my kids and fiances will enjoy trips with me. Sort of kicking myself for not building a 4-seater but I'm sure if I would have done that then they would end up hating it. So just need to see how things play out with what I have.

Don't make it perfect, just make it run. You'll figure out what works and what doesn't.

I have no regrets running my buggy unpainted and 93.273% finished for 2 years. Looking back, worrying about perfection was a major roadblock for me.
I've been striving for "perfection" for the majority of this build. I know I wont get there but I've been trying to make everything as best I can because I don't have a lot time or extra money in my family budget. I want to try an limit having to spend more time/money to redo things in the future. And dont want to waste my time/money on trips when its done because things dont work, break, etc when I get to take a trip.

That'll be the plan. I'd much rather keep welding and doing fabrication than learning to regear axles :ROFLMAO:
What everyone says above for sure.
Keep them as is for now. Drive it, then you'll know how much deeper you want to go when it's time.
Do you have everything you need to regear?
It's not as bad as you think. I've done several and haven't had issue so far.

No I dont have anything to regear to a new ratio. But I do have a D60 with 4.10's that I need to swap to a different D60. So I think in the process of doing that I'll learn a few things. I'm sure I'll be able to pick up setting up gears pretty quick. Just so many things left to do on the build it would be nice to not have another sizable task to do.
