Nobody here is going to call the cops or dnr on you, but you should at least realize why incidents like this give the 4x4 community a bad rap.

1. You illegally trespassed.
2. You probably tore up the trail spinning.
3. You went public announcing you illegally trespassed

You live by the mounds, you have NO excuse for illegally wheeling anywhere.

There seem to be an awful lot of saints on this thread. I'm quite sure he isn't the first one of us to stretch the limits of legal driving in Michigan (did you break the speed limit on your way into work/school today? I did.). I am not condoning the breaking of laws that get more of our land taken away by enviro-nazis, but we were all young and new to off roading once. Chide him once and get on with helping the guy. Letting him get impounded won't teach him anything other than the fact that Jenny won't even say thank you when she emptys his wallet. He made a fair offering of compensation that I'd accept if I were in the Flint area today.

x2

I mean NO body on this thread has ever bragged about wheeling illegally with a small private group of friends?

Strider;

The DNR fails to teach people the right and wrongs of 4x4 usage in this state when I believe they should (driver's ed), so its left up to "friends of friends" to teach others. Sure I've illegally wheeled, and I'm sure most on this site have. But once I found out what I was doing was illegal, I stopped. Threads like this are needed to educate people who can find the internet, but can't find the laws regarding 4x4 use in Michigan. This exact same "Help I'm stuck illegally" thread comes up once a month. Threads like this are necessary to teach the violater, as well as the other "newbies" to the sport what the laws are.
