Wet Jeep, now weird dash issue

I have a 1997 Jeep Wrangler, and stupid me, left the top off last night. This morning with all the rain, it got a little wet. I got most of the water off of the floor boards, i am eating dinner right now, and will be taking it to the car wash to vacuum the rest of the water out of the mats. It sounds as if the dash lights are flashing, or SOME light is trying to flash, but my Check Engine light is already on, and I'm guessing I have a few burned out bulbs back there, I don't know what else could be flashing. It seems to be running alright, temperature wise, and oil pressure and everything, I can't think of any warning lights that SHOULD be coming on. Anyone have any ideas about this?

Never put top on mine in the rain till I had kids with no issue also use to go to mud bogs without top on the Jeep. As for the lights if its the same tomorrow I'd pull the gauge cluster out and check to see if connectors are wet.

I read up on the clock springs, and it looks like that shouldn't cause DASH issues, as it only affects the circuits that run through it. I'm off to check to see if my horn works! lol that should rule out the clock spring.

The noise that I'm hearing, is the same noise you hear when your blinker is on "click click click" almost like a clock, but it's a rapid one.

I do know that when you have a brake light out, it ticks this speed, but I only have one light out, and that's on the front driver side on the side of the fender flare. This noise is ALWAYS on, not just when the lights are on. Thanks for all the help so far guys.

I had this exact thing happen to my '99 TJ. Top off sitting in the rain, I think that's way worse than driving in the rain with out a top, must've rained right into my dash. It made the same noise and everything.

To put you at ease, once it dried out, everything went back to normal. I think it took a couple days for mine to return to normal. It was a few years ago.

I forget if this is the same in the early TJ's, but in my 02 the electronic flasher for the signals and hazards is right on top of the steering column next to the button for the hazards. That may be the source of your noise.

If I were you I'd investigate it. When I bought the 02 TJ the signals didn't work and it turns out my problem was a flasher module that very obviously got wet and rusted solid internally. If your setup is the same as mine, it looks like a relay and can unplug from the multifunction switch. Take it out and take it apart and make sure it is dry inside. They cost like $35 if it goes bad. Not huge money, but worth a try.

Thanks. It started to slow down, not sounding like a machine gun ticking, but it'd only tick every few seconds, and the next day it was gone. I'm guessing something got wet and caused a ground on that module, but it's all good now. As far as I know, my turn signals all work still, but I'll keep that in mind if they DO go out down the road from getting drenched like this.
