Roads are just fine now on the north side of GR. Pretty rough this morning tho. I dug a Grand Cherokee out of the woods last night so I could have 4x4 for my drive to work today. It did well enough that I almost thought about putting plates and insurance on it...But I don't feel like adding another vehicle to my road fleet

I drove home from Indianapolis last night. I got about 50 minutes south of Lansing and I never have had white out conditions like that. I almost pulled off until I found some tail lights to follow again.

At 20mph the way it was falling looking through the windshield it looked and felt like I was parked. The only way I knew I was moving was to look out a side window. I've driven in a LOT of ridiculous snowstorms, but never had it give that feeling.
I remember the storm of 78'. I was driving along, and it was total white out. I followed some taillights till I couldn't even see them and I was close to him. I pulled over and walked to friends house. I spent three days there till a payloader dug the roads out. I ended up stopping about 10 feet from a power pole. I would have hit it if I had kept driving. Driving blind is kinda scary. Never know what you can bump into.

I used to drive a lot between MTU and nowhereville troll-land and lake effect snow is no joke. I was almost always pulling my car hauler with something on it and I always towed with a set of magnetic lights up high to go with the lights on the trailer. The magnetic lights had those heated pads used for RV plumbing on them to keep them from snowing over.

There were a couple times I drove through the road closed sign and State Police on the Seney stretch mostly because I didn't want to get hit by some idiot. US2 by Brevort is worse for idiots. Then the people at the bridge would always try to talk me into an escort.

I've been hit three times pulling my trailer because people just drive faster to get through the giant cloud of snow. It's insane. And they'll do it with bald all-seasons. I used Cooper Weathermasters on the truck and trailer. I remember one time I was towing by Champion when an idiot in a Ford Ranger drove into the back of my trailer and popped a tire. Drunk driving of course, so he didn't want to report it.

One time I was by Grayling and it was snowing super hard. Snow was probably 8" deep. I stayed in the left lane with all the plow cars (Subarus). Listening to the truck drivers on the CB radio lamenting about the stupid fourwheeler pulling a trailer going 25mph in the left lane was hilarious when they all followed each other off the road going 15mph.

Looking back, it was kind of stupid, but I never outdrove my brakes or visibility... but damn near everyone else does.

Yup, drove around those more then once. And once, I thought I wasn’t going to make it the storm was so bad off of Lake Superior I still can’t believe I made it.

Drove around gates in ND and SD but never got caught, big fines up there for that. When I lived there it was against the law to drive by somebody stranded. Not sure if this is still the case up there.

I was pulled over this morning by the a State Trooper. I was about to pass him before I noticed he was a Trooper. I was going 80mph, but slowed to 72 before I was ahead of him. He said he was going 82 and I was gaining on him. I do not believe him as I knew my speed by gps map. Because he could not ticket me for speed as he had no proof, he said he was going to ticket me for snow covered plate. I mentioned that there was a snow storm the day before. Ultimately I came out with NO ticket.

I didn't realize I need to add clearing plate before heading to work.

I wouldn't call him a prick. He was nice, but not much older than drinking age. I think I hurt his ego by passing him.

I commute between Cedar Springs and Zeeland and I always have the cruise set at 80. Been passed by many Troopers while doing so. Can't explain why this guy wanted to talk to me. Just glad he didn't ask about weapons or I would probably be still along the highway.

Maybe the mistake was slowing down. It demonstrated that you were aware of how fast you were going. The few times that I've been caught off guard at 80mph, I always hold the speed. I look at it as, if they want to talk, they'll let me know. The only times they've wanted to talk though, was when I was closer to 90 than 80.
