I had heard this and when I installed mine I tried to figure out what makes them different. I don't see it. From a theory standpoint, they work like any other lockout where there are face teeth on 2 slugs that engage with each other. They spring to engage and cam from the rotating knob to disengage. So, what typically fails? Either the splines strip out or the face teeth shear or round off, or the spring breaks or the rotating knob quits turning.

To say that when it "fails" that it remains locked is a mystery to me. That aside, they are a simple design and have held up well.:thumb:
