I wasnt hanging out on the backside, my quad just does not have the capability to go 1000mph. I was just rolling through them in 3rd gear and a group of those guys came flying over and landed about 5 ft from me.
For some it is hard to comprehend that some are not heading out to the dunes to pretend we are in the baja 1000 all day long. Some people just like to cruise around, climb some hills, watch some stupidty, fear for our lives because of the stupidity, and enjoy the beach.

To me the biggest danger at the dunes isn't the inability to see, or being on the backside of a hill, it's the inability for those who think it's the baja 1000 to realize that the speed difference between them and someone else is huge and is what will ultimately kill more people.

Well put.

I agree that people have done stupid shit there for years. I might even have been included in that group of people. It is just back in the "old days" the pictures were not sent out over the internet for every one friend and foe to see. I would guess there were probably as many people hurt way back than as there are now. Or at least the same percentage hurt to number using the place. Remember though that even with out shutting the place down there are always new rules that can be made. Nothing over 25 MPH, no jumping of hills, and I am syure the list could go on and on. I can remember when flags were not required, traffic ran both directions, helmets in the back seat no way, let the girls with the biggest boobs stand back there and enjoy the scenery as you bounced along. Some rules are probably for the better but there are lots more that could come along.
That said I really did like the video but there is a time and a place and I just do not think SL is the place. And I suppose that if it was my truck and I was 30 years younger I would probably have to go for 190'
When did you start going to the dunes? Flags were required pre 1976, of that I am sure. The rest of your statement is true.

I am one of the believers that it will be a long time before the dunes are shut down. However, more and more rules will continue to come because of asshats like this guy in the vid. I've seen him bombing around and more than once come close to people while at a high speed. All we need is for someone to do a big jump and land on someone and jumping will be done.

The first summer that I spent a lot of time there was 1970. If I remember correctly the state park camping area opposite of the lake side was not even there yet. I could be wrong about the flags being required but I do not think they were. It was suggested that they be used but I do not believe they were required.

A co-worker witnessed this jump and claimed that welds broke, if so it's not a pro anything. Go to Bark River some of the Pro2's & Pro 4's jump that far of the hill almost every lap and keep right on going. A neighbor was up there and had a dirt bike land on the front of his truck while at a complete stop and his insurance co paid the dirt bike riders medical bills just to avoid a lawsuit.

same old shit different day. i have probobly spent more time on the dunes then anybody on here. yea been up there since the early 70's. its why i moved there.love the place.but these threads are so dumb. there is at least 20 on here every year. everyone tells everyone else how they should act, talk, drive, turn, jump and back up.
