Jeep doesn’t and won’t make a Grand Comanche, so I’m considering a new GMC Canyon. I like the interior and ride of my Grand Cherokee, the box and versatility/maneuverability of my Comanche, and the gas mileage of my Buick. As far as towing, the Canyon is rated at 7000lbs. I’ll have my ‘83 Chevy Crew Cab to handle the heavy towing.

The 3.6 V6 is rated at 302 hp and has a MPG rating of 17/24.

They will be offering a diesel next year.

90% of the design work that I have been doing is for GM vehicles. Most of my pay has been coming indirectly from GM.

I haven’t driven one yet, but I sat in one last week.

Anybody hear anything bad about them yet?

I think the V6 is a version of the LFX using direct fuel injection, you would want to run an aftermarket catch can in the PCV hose to keep nasty stuff off the valves. Camaro's have been dealing with this since 2010 I have discovered.

I have driven a few.....they suck imo.

Ugly, no ground clearance, fuel economy barely better than a fullsize with a v8, costs almost as much as a fullsize, it may be rated at 300hp but it feels like a hell of a lot less....no low end, very sluggish feeling (admittedly my opinion is slightly jaded here....dding a modified 400+ hp diesel will do that).....they also are geared way high (most i have seen are 3.42) trying to scrape up highway economy
which doesn't help matters in felt power

To me anyone who buys one over a silverado is a fool

I don't regret buying a mid sized truck one bit. Is the mileage better than a full sized truck? Marginally, unloaded I average 18-19, sometimes as good as 20-21. I tow a pop up camper that weighs maybe 2,000 lb soaking wet, you barely know it's there. I get about 15-16 towing the camper.

I bought a mid sized truck because it's what best suits my needs. A half ton with equivalent miles and options would've cost me about $5,000 more, although that wasn't really a determining factor.

Would I buy a Colorado or Canyon? No, I think toyota and nissan both build a better mid sized truck, even though both of there offerings are dated.

I think a truck company could do very well if they struck a balance between mileage, cost, and size. They are priced out a market they are trying to create.

I was bored so I went and did the "build and price" on Chevy's website. I built several Colorados and Silverados and no matter what the configuration was, (similar options on both trucks) the Colorado seemed to be 5K less than the Silverado any way you looked at it. 5K more for a full size, but you get a lot more truck.

I got bored at work and did some research, the 4 door 6.5' bed version is almost identical to a 88-98 k1500 extended cab short bed full size chevy/GMC regarding exterior dimensions.

The extended cab version of these can fit an adult of my size but not comfortably for long.

Buy a full size and be happy.

Well, if you're kind of set on one of these....I guess you have have a couple options: buy a gasser now and do what you wish; wait until next years Colorado comes out and possibly buy a diesel; or continue on without one.

That one is ours. Bought it from Caron in Marshall when there was only 3 available within 250 miles of us. Then they recalled them for the airbag thing. I wasn't super excited about it when I picked it up but after lifting it and running the 35s it is starting to grow on me. Our marketing guy drove it out to the SEMA show (it is in our booth) and he said it rode/drove amazing. Could use a little help with a better gear ratio but he was hauling about 800 lbs of show stuff. I will admit, the V6 was much better than I expected.

I am actually like the looks of the Canyon better. Looking forward to getting our hands on one.

Plenty of pics on instagram if anybody is interested. http://instagram.com/bdssuspensions
