2006 dodge ram 2500 cummins 4x4. 236,000 miles
So here is the story:
Wipers quit and were working on and off, then all functions quit except high which was extremely slow and would work for 4 or 5 wipes then quit..
I replaced the motor today and high works faster but no other speeds..
Bought new Multifunction switch from dealer and still same issue. I have been looking at wiring diagrams and they show the wiper circuit goes through the Dash Cluster then through the TIPM(Toltally integrated power Module) to the motor. I am not getting any signals to the motor except high.
I already have $140.00 into wiper parts.. The TIPM is $700.00 and not returnable so buying one and trying is out of the question and I would rather not rip apart dash and all wiring if there is common failure point.
This a plow truck and can't afford to be down!

My question: is there a common area to look for failure or do I just need to full diagnostics on every wire? Has any one had this issue?

Update 12/12/09 Wipers are fixed, details in post #6

It is a long shot, but won't cost anything to try cleaning the ground. On my 05 the ground is on the left front fender up by the firewall, don't know if the 06 is the same. My intermittent function stopped working and after I cleaned that ground it works again. There was a post on TDR about the factory grounds being painted over and advising cleaning all of them up.

UPDATE:
After several hours of banging my head against the wall, it is fixed!!
1: Install complete new Chryler wiper madule (motor and new arms, comes as assembly)
2: Install a second Chrysler Multiswitch
3: Had friend come over with Scan tool and reset all codes in TIPM and it works. It looks like it was in some kind of safe mode and clearing all the codes in the TIPM allowed the circuit to work. The dealers don't tell you this. They say the TIPM is bad. According to some diagnostics stuff on Mitchell, the TIPM and codes need to be cleared after changing a simple wiper motor. Hope this helps someone else out in the future.

Good deal!

Good to know that clearing the codes works for other things besides the trailer lights. http://dodgeram.info/tsb/2006/08-021-06.htm
According to the TSB Chrysler allows the TIPM codes cleared 5x and on the sixth attempt the module is permanently disabled? WTF? I wonder if resetting it for the wipers counts and you have four left. If your friend is a Chrysler or Dodge tech please ask him why they do this.

My friend is not a Chrysler tech but a trained GM tech, he just happens to have a really expensive Scan tool with all the updates and is an electrical guru . I would assume they do this after five times to make sure the original problem gets fixed. So if someone has a short somewhere they don't just keep resetting it.
I hope it isn't 5 cleared codes total, but 5 for each individual issue.

2006 Dodge Ram 2500 Wiper problems

Hi, my name is Adi, I'm from Romania (Europe), have the same truck as you had in 2009 (the 2500 RAM). Unfortunately i have since 2 months the same wiper problems as you (catastrophic). I read your update to this problem from December 12th, 2009 and i understand you get that fixed. Is this right?
My problem with the wipers starts with functioning very slowly but just in the high position, then very very quickly and i mean it very quickly and then they quit working for ever. I checked (as they sad in the 'Service manual') the MULTIFUNCTION SWICH,it seems to be ok (internal resistanceand,.....and so on). I find out that the wiper motor is burnt out. I bought a new one, complete with assembly, but it isn't working. I was at my friend (electronic guru !!!) and he deleted the error codes from the TIPM but nothing happened. I AM desperate !!! Can you help me please. More tipps maybe ???
