The backing plates are different unless its an older non-clip 35. Newer dana 35 use a smaller brakes (D44-10" D35-9") and the bolt pattern to bolt it on the axle is smaller.I went throught the same thing trying to get my xj D44 together. You can use dana 35 drum brakes if it is an older no-clip 35 with 10" brakes.

This may be a stupid question but why not go with disk brakes off of a ZJ Dana 35?
