Im splicing things up to get my ABS back on my ZJ with WJ steering and XJ axle. The wheel speed sensors are very different. Im thinking the WJ's are photo transistor (optical) and the ZJ's are old school AC wave (magnetic reluctor). Can anybody verify this?

As long as you are using the axle shafts from your ZJ or the XJ that have the tone rings pressed on you shouldn't have to do any splicing. Am I missing something? Are you running WJ axle shafts or something somehow?

Its a ZJ with WJ knuckles so the ZJ WSS's wont work. I have the WJ WSS installed and wired up and they dont work. I did some digging and Im 99% sure that the ZJ uses passive WSS while the WJ uses active WSS. So these two systems are not compatable. The only way to get the ABS on the ZJ back is to run ZJ WSS on the WJ knuckles. Good read: http://www.brakeandfrontend.com/Article/46336/diagnosing_wheel_speed_sensors.aspx

Gotcha. Is there any way to mount the ZJ ABS sensor on the WJ knuckle? I'm guessing no, but I haven't heard of anyone else bringing this up.

Im working on it. Im not aware of anyone else making it work. I eff'ed up one of my ZJ WSS when I hacked off the harness to transplant onto the WJ WSS, I cut it too close to the harness like a dumb ass. So now I have to hit the junk yard for a ZJ WSS... Pulled my head out of my ass on the other side and left a few inches of harness on the WSS, just in case I would need it.....

Post this on MC, I'm almost positive someone over there has made it work.
Yea I did put this on MC check the repair section.

As far as lockers making ABS irrelevant Im not sure how that works out. My front Aussie un-locks on turns so how does that work anydifferently than being open diff on turns? I guess I can see how off road conditions could be affected and thats why most people just ditch the ABS all together. My ZJ gets wayyyy more on-highway miles than off-road with my wife behind the wheel as her dd. I would think that the majority of the time I will want the ABS to be effective on ice/snow while the wheels are straight ahead or close to straight ahead. For off road Ill simply disconnect one of the WSS harnesses while Im pulling the sway bar disco's so the ABS will be inop, thats not an issue.....
