This doesn't apply to everyone of course.

Simple question. Why don't you help financially, or with the donation of your time?

Is it a lack of information of what you can do to help? Is it easier to sit back and watch other people do it? Lack of time?

Ever notice land issue threads receive 1/50th the hits of a post in the pub featuring cats playing the piano? Why is this?

Cause everyone loves to watch a cat play piano?:tonka:

Me, lack of info, if people planned a weekend around helping out with something, I'd go. So I guess a little lack of info and comrodery(sp)

I try to help when and how I can.....personally I just dont "brag" about when I help out I just do my part.

And as far as the amount of posts, I think it is because the pub gets a lot more smart ass responses and people F'ing with each other, where as out of respect people dont do that in the Land Use or Rules and Regs thread.

Could "bragging" be the answer? If everybody talks about what they did to help, it might show other people what they could do to help the sport.

Simple 95% of the people want to bitch and say what needs to be done and only 5% of the people do anything to help the problem

IE it is easier to sit back and complain that to do something to make a difference

I donate $$$ to the michigan cycle conservation club and continue to write our legislators.

Reminds me, time to bug Birkholz and patterson again on HB4323 - it's been two weeks since my last round of questions. :d:

well, the only problem with that is people get flamed alot on here for that.....with the "Thanks R o s i e" (damn filters :sonicjay:) responses and various other daily bashings that take place around here.

This sounds familiar.......oh yeah, people bitching about politics/government and not impeaching/recalling....bitching about doing trail rides and then when they are told how to do it legally they just say F it, I aint doing it...its to much of a pain in the ass to comply with the rules....I will just wait a little bit and do it without anyone knowing.

There are a lot of discussion areas I don't visit on this website - the Hummer Tech section for example. I'm a Jeep guy so why bother? I like the fact that the land use forum is a dedicated place for serious discussion about serious issues, but if people don't have it on their list of forums to check to see what's happenning, they are never going to see what we are doing in here. Maybe we need to take some of these discussions back over to the Pub just to let people know there are things going on that they can help with. More opportunity for flames, irrelevant posts, etc but threads with 4 pages of replies seem to get a lot of attention. It would be tough to moderate, though. How do you decide when topic is a good one to move over to the Pub for more discussion?

I think it goes deeper than the financial or time commitment. The announcement for the GLFWDA quarterly meeting has been stickied in the pub for 2 weeks. It currently has 3 replies and 165 views.

Directly below that is a thread about a cell phone that was started 18 hours ago and has 28 replies and 181 views. People don't even care to look at any of the land use stuff.

That sticked thread shows the opportunity to VOTE for the next VP of the organization. In the past, there have been accusations of the board not doing things right,:chiefwoohaw: :chiefwoohaw: etc. This is the opportunity to get involved or get your friends involved.

Chris, not picking on you, but yes, there are organized efforts. They get posted here and on the GLFWDA site.

In the past, there have been negative posts by people who are very popular on the sites. I have pm'd them asking why they wouldn't get involved & they didn't even bother to reply to my pm. Can't figure it out.

I don't have the answer.

I think the Pub obviously gets more traffic because a good percentage of the people here want to BS all day and aren't interested in talking about much related to 4x4s.

Personally, I would get more involved with supporting our trails, but I am kind of alone on this side of the state. The people I do wheel with aren't internet types or the public land types. I have been involved in quite a bit of maintenance of private wheeling land over here. I would really like it if the GL members that are over here wanted to be more active and meet up and wheel, or work on trails, or just M&G, but I haven't had the chance to meet any of them yet.

There is a large percentage of the people who might no want to help, but if you make it fun or worthwhile, I think many would join in.

Is this why you auto-subscribed me to every single forum in 4x4 Land Use?

When no one is looking?? The width of my XJ is around 70 inches. I know some have mixed traffic but honestly I enjoy seasonal roads more.
Do you realize that many of the seasonal roads are slated to be closed unless they are properly digitized via GPS? That is one of the things GL is trying to do........ get a digital record before it is too late.

I already have a job.....I would be happy to help if I lived closer to the trails and GLFWDA didn't need me to give them $$ before I get involved. Honestly I could care less if they close trails in Michigan there is not much to see here anyway compared to other states (scenery).
cliffs notes....

you dont wheel, just on the web, therefore you dont care. :woot:

Iit's hard to find a place in the state where there aren't active clubs, and lots of them are on the west side -

Plus, GLFWDA schedules at least one quarterly meeting every year in the Silver Lake area. We aren't all work, we like to play too.
