I had a '97 escort that the hood latch would not work on... When the primary hood latch let go it would bump onto the safety latch.... I did not like that so I duct taped it. I was 7 hours from home ... It lasted until the next oil change.

I then went and put tool box buckles on it. It is still running around Ypis and A2 that way.

I had a 1992 Range Rover County with the opposite problem... the lever you pull on the interior to open the hood broke off in my hand one day! It made opening the hood a pain because you would have to crawl up under the dash with a pair of pliers and grab hold of the little bit of the cable that was left.

And considering how often you would have to pop the hood on that POS, it was not fun times.

It was a fun vehicle though for the 1,000 miles it lasted me!

I had something similar happen except the cable broke after I drained the oil to do an oil change.
