Quoted from Trump thread...

I do share your concern about getting into a pissing match with the dictator of venezuela. If we do nothing to help the people who will help them? We see cuba, Russia and other socialist/communist countries showing support for the dictator there.
I can see that situation only getting worse for the people of venezuela. At one time 20 some years ago Venezuela was one of the richest countries in the southern hemisphere.
You might not think communism is no threat but look at the push for socialism happening right now.
You know what comes after socialism? Communism.

I think the concern with Russia and cuba moving in is that Russia has the capability to place nukes on Venezuelan soil.
20 years ago when Venezuela was one of the richest nations in the southern hemisphere it was a socialist nation. The reason they were so rich was that they nationalized the petroleum industry and used the proceeds to build national infrastructure. If you bought gas at a Citgo station you helped them.
So what happened? Mismanagement, and a crash of oil prices.

The truth is that Venezuela has almost always been socialist and ruled by dictators. Blame Simón Bolívar for that.

I'm not at all concerned with getting into a pisssing match with the dictator of Venezuela. Oddly enough, Trump seems to be pretty good at dealing with crazy MF'er like that, I think because he's of similar mindset.

Of much bigger concern, as you suggested, is what Russia will do.

I've avoided buying Citgo gas for years because I didn't want to support Chavez. This is another example of why socialism doesn't work and I wish the folks in Washington would wake up.

As far as getting involved, my vote is to stay out. But our history of helping suppressed people tells me we will get involved.

Agree on all points.

Venezuela's current situation is a good example of why the 2nd Amendment is so important.

Venezuela was only ever rich because outside entities spent a fortune investing in their dilapidated everything and then they nationalized it. Communism only works when someone else is paying. It nearly bankrupted several american companies.

Chile did the same thing, but they switched to a kind of democracy in 1990 plus they've been lucky in that they still have the copper mines and any idiot can run a copper mine... or else they'd probably look like an Easter Island Venezuela.
