It is not from hitting something, my hog road up on a sapling exceeded the ujoint angle, my shear pin was still intact, years ago I did this to my uncle's hog crossing a stream going up the bank on the far side. Still sucks !!!

Yeah, can't help ya with a shaft/u-joint angle issue. I did that once years ago and the joint bound up and actually opened up the PTO shaft tube a Pillsbury dough tube. The shaft and the brush hog were from the 1960's though. Great use for Trick-or-Treat transportation.
