does any body weld the axle tubes to the carrier, or is that not an issue with the dana 30. (btw its out of a 93 yj with the stock disco) should i weld the tubes into the stupid thing that houses the disco too?

another slightly off topic question if i want upgrade to a one piece shaft on the pass side, can i use one from the junkyard out of a cherokee/ grand cherokee with out changing the seal in the diff? recomendations on the CHEAP would be appreciated!

I don't know that I've seen people spinning the pumpkin on dana 30s. Its actually pretty hard to weld it anyway, you'll think you are good, but, come back in an hour and your welds will likely have cracked loose anyway.

I believe you'll need a new seal that goes inside the axle tube for that long size. There's and OEM one that fits, even though there's no machined surface.

If you plan on beating on it I would truss from the passenger side of the pumpkin to the farthest you can on the passenger side.

I am wanting to truss my dana 30, but am curious if the pumpkin is cast steel that can be welded with mild steel rod? Or is it cast iron that will need to be welded with a nickel rod?

iron and nickel rod, but I have seen it just pre and post heated and welded with mild steel

When I did my 8.8 I preheated the cast to 400 and used some special rod my father in law got me. Its held up great. If you want to go for it.
