She is fine. The mast of her boat was broken and long range communications knocked out. There is a fishing vessel that is heading her way to help her get back.I was watching this with my dad last week and i was asking him why he didn't let me sail around the world... I know why now...
I hope she is found and is alright.
Wat? Her parents who are probably (at least) a weeks worth of traveling away should come get her in the Winter sea she's in right now? And are you trying to tell us that you have to be 18 to travel around the world by yourself in a Yacht? If she can have a yacht, why can't her parents go pick her up? They have the money. Apparently even if she was successful they wouldn't have recognized it as its 18 and over now to discourage such nonsense.
She was going through the indian ocean in Winter, which many people who do this for a living said was the most stupid thing they could have possibly decided on doing with the around the world trip. She was stuck risking her life in the rough seas there because they wanted her to be the youngest ever, and they couldn't wait any longer.Wat? I'm glad they found her safe and that she's capable of all that she's done. Seems like a Cool Adventure and if I had any Boating experience I may try and get more and do it my self.
Agreed. That's what I was trying to say. I was just confused at what Boogts was saying. She was going through the indian ocean in Winter, which many people who do this for a living said was the most stupid thing they could have possibly decided on doing with the around the world trip. However, if she was capable, more power to her. Sounds like she was strong enough, but her boat wasn't.
Exactly. I'm not putting my kid in the middle of the ocean, alone, and if something goes wrong, to plead for others to rush to her safety.Wat? Gotcha. Still an awesome trip I'm sure. It doesn't quite make sense that in order for it to count you have to be 18. That kind of sets a Limit on "The youngest person to sail around the world".....They have to be 18. ::sonicjay:Exactly. I'm not putting my kid in the middle of the ocean, alone, and if something goes wrong, to plead for others to rush to her safety.
For it to actually count as the record, yes.
http://abcnews.go.com/Technology/story?id=5488600&page=1You know some yahoo would send their 5 year old out in a skiff at some point...
Sure, just like if your house catches on fire, you are going to put it out and rescue everyone inside by yourself right? No 911 for you, your more responsible than that.Exactly. I'm not putting my kid in the middle of the ocean, alone, and if something goes wrong, to plead for others to rush to her safety.
Yeah, some even think they can be cops, imagine that....:sonicjay:I swear. Girls these days think they can do anything. :teehee:
Well, her older brother successfully sailed around at 17, and held the record as youngest, but then some 16yr old aussie chick did it and got the record, so this chick was doing it to try to get the record back.Exactly. cherio chap! I agree ,I've almost drown in my bathtub a couple of times. Bully I say, Bully!:sonicjay:Actually, her brother's record has little to do with her record attempt. He just wanted to be the youngest to circumnavigate the world. She wanted to do the trip unassisted--which is an entirely different adventure. I spent some time reading up on both of their trips today.
I think that you would all find that these 2 young individuals are far better equipped to make decisions, respond to emergency situations and attempt to save their own lives in the middle of the ocean than most of the GL4X4 population is swim in their own bathtub.
