So, how 'Good' is the CJ T-5 transmision? ('83-'86)

I know its not a World Classs (WC) T-5 like the Mustang uses, but it does have a 4:1 first gear and is setup for a married t-case, namely the D300.

I know 'Good' is a relative term, lets say that its use would NOT be hard wheeling, but 95% road driven.

Anyone have any information or opinions on this?

What are you putting in front if it? Mine is "well-used" with about 140k and has been abused with some clutch dumping on 33x14.5 Swampers with 3.54's as well. Not a peep. Right now I'm putting a healthy 304 in front of it and am just going to run it until it blows up. When it does, I'll put in another one.

Yeah, they seem to last OK. That 4:1 first I think is one of the weak links behind a V8. The Mustangs went to 3.35 then to 2.95 for the world class, I believe.

For all that I've heard them being weak, I've seen them get pretty used & abused without major incedents.
