i talked to dale yesterday about all these subjects.he will never be able to please everyone.they have a great thing going and it can get real big. there is things that need to be done that will be.making it harder? well i am sure he will throw some different obstacles in for the june race.just about everyone broke something out of 32 rigs..so if it is made too hard nobody will finish. so he has to find the sweet spot for everyone...he will do his best.
the timing is being taken care of. a motocross like start is not going to happen. because it will turn into a crash up derby the first lap and cause fights and some big ego's...
i am going to talk to him more the next couple days and figure some more stuff out...bottom line is they will never please everyone. it is a race.
i agree they cannot please everyone. the reason this is so cool is your average wheeler can enter because they will see it's doable for them. i too think this is going to boom.
throwing in different obstacles makes no difference to me. all i can say is i can try. you just don't want it to be too difficult because you won't get the driver turn out and that is what brings in the spectators. just like a mud run when nobody makes the pit drivers and spectators start to get bored waiting to get pulled out and broke down in the pit. where as if everyone makes it it gets faster and keeps their attention.

it was also nice because it kept moving, action all the time. Dale,Wes, and Gary are doing an awesome job with this. these are just the growing pains of this kind of event. i'm really looking forward to the june race.

here are the results sorry for the delay, i have no lap times
are the lap times going to be posted at some time or arent you guys going to publish that? i was just curious as to how we did against the other competitors when we weren't having mechanical issues.

Really, I have a single purpose rig? Ok. I've done the rock crawl events, I've done the Extreme Truck Challenge, I too prefer a 4 hour long race rather than waiting an hour or more to get in my 15 minute run. All I'm saying is that I would like to see some rock obstacles somewhere in the 7 mile long course that tests every aspect of your rig and your driving skills. I like the high speed twisty tight trails. I like rock. I like mud. I like everything about wheeling which is why I've entered every comp that I've been able to. I'm simply giving my opinion on what I think would make the event a little better. From a spectator point of view, I do not think it was a good event to watch. In fact I only saw a couple dozen people there watching. Do you remember how many people were watching at the other events? At KOH how much of a croud is there at the desert sections versus the rock sections?
Spectators defintely like carnage. I too was suprised there weren't more people there. Next time they will have maps of the course for the spectators so they don't have to walk all over the park to figure out/guess where to watch. 7 miles is a big course. One of the best places to watch was the field, because this was about the only place you could actually pass somebody (from what I could see) I saw one of the hill climbs that had a couple of different lines, but they still weren't condusive to passing.

Each to his own...... But, I agree with some diversity like the first race, test all aspects, some speed, some mud, twisity tree ridden areas(killed me) and ROCKS. I was at KOH and yes thousands gathered at the back door (rock climb) to watch carnaige, no one to speak of was watching the high speed desert. Spectators like excitement, rollovers and carnaige. This should be part or racing........ITS NOT TRAIL RIDING....its a competition.....trail riding is for famileis and kids to ride along.
I think twisted trails have run some great comps, I just hope they continue to take input to improve these things. It was a beautiful day without many spectators....why? .....anyway...
The weather was perfect that day, not sure why there weren't more people there (price of gas maybe?)
I'm sure there weren't more spectators there because they knew in advance that the concrete slab wouldn't be part of the course. Either way, whatever they do with the course, we will all deal with it...it's a challenge.

Hopefully more will make it out next time...It is a great race to watch and you have 4 hours to figure out a good spectator viewing point or just move around and view from different areas.

Maybe the $10 spectator fee could be applied to the gate fee for those that want to wheel on Sunday:beerbang:

It is a race and the more that can actually finish will make for a better race. :thumb:

I wasn't there but have looked at the pics and comments. Why wasn't I there? Life and other things got in the way but I would definitely like to come check it out. Looks like a great spectator sport.

I like the idea of it being a mid-level course. I think it's great that the average rig can come and compete without feeling intimidated. For the bigger class rigs, maybe a different line can be created to make it more difficult while the smaller rigs get the bypass or easier route. From what I can see, the format is pretty good and only needs the tweaking.

This is exactly what Dale was thinking about doing.

All I have to say now is careful what you ask for. For anyone that doesn't know Dale, he is very capable of making a few "difficult" obstacles that spectators will love. He has a very twisted mind when it comes to trail building!:sonicjay: Wish I could have been at the first one regardless of the course. See you all in June!

Myself and 2 others spent the $10 spectator fee after driving a couple of hours. For what? to walk all day thru the woods? We were a bit disappointed, no map of the course or recommended view points of the race. Not much carnage that we saw. Is it possible to have challenging section that may require some guys to winch? If we come back maybe they could make and route a difficult section thru that bowl area or in holly moley so we won't spend all day walking the course looking for something to watch. Its a cool concept though. Just my observation as a spectator. Thanks
