Toyota Land Cruiser History : Production of the first generation of the Land Cruiser began in 1951 as Toyota's version of a Jeep-like vehicle. The Land Cruiser has been produced in convertible, hardtop, station wagon and cab chassis body styles. The Land Cruiser's reliability and longevity have led to huge popularity, especially in Australia, where it is the best-selling body-on-frame, four-wheel drive vehicle. The Land Cruiser is also hugely popular in Africa, where it is used by farmers, NGO's, UN and humanitarian organizations, by national armies (often the pickup version) as well as by irregular armed groups who turn them into 'technicals' by mounting machine guns in the rear. The launch of the first-generation Toyota Jeep BJ in 1951 up to 2021, cumulative global sales have surpassed 10 million + units. Since the launch of the Land Cruiser 20 Series in 1955, Toyota has expanded its export destinations with a focus on Central and South America, the Middle East, and Southesast Asia. At present, the Land Cruiser is sold in approximately 170 countries and regions worldwide. Ho Hum. Toyota used Jeep Chassis as prototypes. The first landcruisers were Jeep knockoffs.

toyota bought Jeep’s and used them to build the first landcruisers. I’ll admit, Landcruisers are pretty cool. But, they started as Jeep knockoffs and always will remain as Jeep knockoffs.
