I was able to pull a solid avg of 15 mpg hauling this load up the dunes a couple weekends ago.. backed down to 65mph and wasnt in a hurry .
the front quad catches a lot of wind,
Most will probably call you a liar but I consistantly get 15.5-16 unloaded out of my 07 classic 6.0. 65mph seems to be the sweet spot for milleage in these trucks, my 03 performed the same way. I run 285s on both trucks, the 03 had intake, exhaust, & programmer. The 07 just has a bullydog gt.

"Best" fuel economy (a useless number really): 20 mpg, empty, all highway, no cap, 65mph, Smarty set to max economy (too much smoke)

Average Fuel Economy Empty (~7200 lbs):
16 city 18 highway

Fuel Economy Towing: from 12 to 15
towing the Jimmy @ 70mph with ac on = 12.6 mpg (~15,300 lbs)

Mpg for 97K miles with maybe 40% towing various loads = 16.01

No on the fly resets. No instantaneous mpg numbers. No one tank wonders from short filling the tank. All mpg hand calculated, speedo corrected. Lie-o-meter starts at 2 mpg optimistic and goes up from there (done so since new).

Best Fuel Economy Empty (6900 lb):
18 mpg

Best Fuel Economy Loaded (13,000 lb combined):
10.4 mpg averaged over 400 mile trip

Load / Driving:
Pop-up truck camper, 6x12 enclosed trailer / cruise control set on 65.


I was hoping to get 10 mpg loaded up, and it came in a little higher - so I am happy. 10 mpg was the "break even" number for a gas engine to equal the equipment premium for a diesel (not including the increased maintenance costs) - figuring 200,000 miles of driving.

I'm happy. :d:

tow rig has same specs but just pulled 11.9 round trip to Drummond island over the weekend doing 65-70mph,and of course a short stretch of 55-60 in there...could have used some airbags but pulled great....not sure on the weight...taking a guess at 21-22k for truck/trailer,supplies and 4 people

tow rig has same specs but just pulled 11.9 round trip to Drummond island over the weekend doing 65-70mph,and of course a short stretch of 55-60 in there...could have used some airbags but pulled great....not sure on the weight...taking a guess at 21-22k for truck/trailer,supplies and 4 people

throwing a personal cent in, it looks like that trailer is alot front heavy. Should have loaded one rig backwards, at least that makes since to me?

had it sitting level and had some bad sway....so did some adjusting on the side of the road and that is the only way it would not sway....stock springs on the EX's bring the suck with any weight...been looking for a set of stock springs for an f350

I've had 4 tow rigs, and I drive pretty conservatively (about 65 mph towing my 12,000 gvwr flatbed trailer)- all numbers hand calculated, I do almost every tank 1. 1978 Ford F-250 Crew shortbed 4x4, 400M, Four speed, 4.11 gears, stock tires - about 12 around town, 8-9 towing. 2. 1998 Silverado 3500 crew dually 4x4, 454 with K&N cold air kit, 4l80E, stock tires - 10 flat empty, 6-8 towing, 5.8 towing with slide in camper installed. 2004 Hemi Durango, 33 all terrains, auto, 4x4, gears unknown - 16 empty, 14-15 towing (best towing vehicle I've ever seen, even pulled 35 foot boat with ease) 1948 35 foot GMC Greyhound Bus, 6-71 Detroit Diesel, Four speed, 42 inch tires, 4.11 gears - 12 mpg all around.

One more for the list, my dd: 1997 Cherokee 4x4, 4 door, five speed, 4.0, 3.07 gears, Everything stock with exception to front lunchbox locker. Unloaded it gets a consistant 25 mpg. I often tow a small trailer behind it. Trailer one is a 10 foot snowmobile unit with tiny tires and a big fold up gate that is slightly wider than the jeep. With one snowmobile, one quad, and one bike loaded onto it I'm lucky to get 12 mpg. Trailer 2 is a flat deck 8 foot unit with standard car tires that is slightly narrower than the jeep. With two enduros loaded onto it I get 20-22 mpg.

The pic is of my truck, trailer, jeep, and a buddy's jeep, on our way home from Drummond Island this spring.

The 25' trailer is mine and the 30' is my buddy's. We’ve discussed a lot about the likes and dislikes of both. They both pull about the same and I don't notice a fuel mileage difference either. I think the triple/single, pulls a little straighter but it also turns a little bit harder. I think my next trailer will be a gooseneck, with triple axles and single wheels. This configuration, I think, would be the straightest, and smoothest, setup.

We just got back this summer from a trip out west where we took my truck with his trailer. We went out to the Rubicon trail in California for a week, and then stopped in Moab for 4 days on the way home. We put 5,000 miles on the truck and averaged 10 mpg. I do like to move right along, and tend to run somewhere between 75 and 80mph. We stopped in Iowa and had the truck and trailer scaled and we were at 27,000 lbs total. We were happy with the 10 mpg's considering the weight, speed, and variety of terrain.

(below are outside cold temp milage), no tune
13.8-14 DD local stuff
18.5 to 19.2 highway 55-65 mph (milage driving)
16.5 @ highway 75 - 78mph

flat tow TJ
55-60 14.5
75 mph 11.6-11.9

mid size car on trailer

65-70 13.4

Load: what ever I feel like pulling. Usually a 5600# equipment trailer or a 30 foot tag camper.

Unloaded mpg: 11
Loaded: 10-11 mpg

Empty - 15-17 all city, 18+ mixed or highway @ 70 or less

Towing 6-8k worth of trailer and trailrig - 14-17 under 70, 10-12 over 70

5.9 Cummins with boost elbow and fuel plate work. Supposedly about 400 hp, and feels like it. It will break tires loose in 4th gear at 45 mph!

3.55 gears in rear and 30 inch tires

I've driven all over country in last two months with it and I've gotten 18-25 towing, 22-31mpg empty.

Seems if I keep it under 2,000 rpm about 65 mph empty I can average 28-30 mpg all day.

I know the cummins gets better mileage than my PSD but I didnt think it was that much better. Whoa!!!
