This is from my XJ FSM. maybe it is the same on a TJ:

"2.5L 4–cylinder engine radiators are the down flow
type, 4.0L 6-cylinder engine radiators are the cross
flow type. Plastic tanks are used on all radiators."

it appears that they can be from my FSM. Looks like the capacities are all the same, it is just the hose routing on the 2.5L that is different.

tj 4.0 radiators are down flow. upper hose on the passenger side, lower on the drivers side. :thumb:

the real difference is that the 2.5 is thinner than the 4.0. When you hold them next to each other its easier to tell
