I just finished up swapping in a new used engine into my 1997 TJ. Before I swapped out the blown up 2.5l 4-cylinder for another 2.5l from a TJ I checked and every function on the TJ worked, well other then the blower motor.

Now since the swap none of the gauges read anything. The indication lights light up, the start up beeps beep like normal and the Jeep starts right up like normal but no gauges. I plan on checking the fuses again and going over every connection later today but what else could i be missing?

try putting a wire to a gage and a ground to see if that works?

if it does then try and located a messed up ground wire somewhere?
Im not quite sure you can do that with a TJ gauge cluster as all the harness's are way behind the dash. I did hit the dash a few times, next time ill use a BFH.

I'm pretty sure you already checked, but I'd say re-check your fuses. Not familiar with the TJ's, but last time I pulled my cluster out of my XJ I blew the 7.5 amp for the gauge info. I had plenty of back lighting, but no tach / gauges or the CEL that I previously had on.

*Update*

Well after finally getting down too figure out whats going on with this Jeep, my father the electrical expert figured out and for temp sake fixed the problem.

On TJ's there is an electrical circuit that connects the gauges, radio and the dome light. My wiring has been modified a time or 2 with a different radio, lights and security system. Basically what we did was wire in a fuzed jumper wire in between the radios constant and switched 12V wires. After that everything works.
