Im getting my TJ ready for the gig, and ive noticed that there is some play/slop in the pinion near the pinion yoke seal. This happened before and Killer B fixed it, saying that it was the crush sleeve that needed to be replaced. My question is this, is it possible to remove the rear most pinion bearing to access the crush sleeve while the gears, locker and everything else is still installed? I have a factory service manual that shows that it is possible, but has anyone done this before and have any advice in doing so.

The outer bearing is supposed to be a light press fit. I am unaware if there is a tool out there to remove them.

I have welded a bolt to the outer bearing and used a slide hammer before. Worked well.

Usually if there is slop, the bearings are bad as well, so I typically replace both bearings. I see front d30's all the time with pinion bearing issues.

Yes I did as well. Skoots check your front DS and make sure it still compresses freely.

When i did the gears on my d30 a couple weeks ago the old bearing came out when i removed the yoke. Have fun with it
