I'd be concerned about any 20 year old cars reliability. The good thing about them is they are generally easy to work on. And i'm not sure why you would want to be concerned about reliability, you are nuts if you drive the thing on the highway.

Your friend sounds like an asshole.

and the peripheral components are the ones that will hold you up when you have to wait a week for them to show up.

motors have always been good (redline for a long while) trans need rebuilds after a while (seals leak and dont get refilled=go bad) t case seems to always be good axles hold up unless above 31" tire or really really stupid with stock

That is a straight answer. You are asking about the reliability of a 19 year old car.

I've had my samurai for 6 years, is mine reliable? Yes? Will yours be reliable, depends a lot on what happened during those 19 years.

Just buy the damn thing, fall in love, drive it, wheel it, and put it away wet.

getting sheetmetal is getting difficult, especially quarter's. the only way to get a quarter panel is to find someone cutting up a zuk for a buggy. try the above boards, and be ready to drive south.

sami motors are pretty reliable. I wheeled the piss out of mine for four years and had no problems with my 1.3. I even flooded a couple times. But like the guys above said history has alot to do with how they will treat ya.

Its probably cheaper to drive south and just buy a whole Tub. :sonicjay:

If you are looking to use this vehicle as a daily driver, you are making a bad choice. If you want a toy to drive on the road and bop around in the woods with, then I would buy it and enjoy.

too late i drive about 350 miles a week with mine and with some light weight tires and wheels i have no problem doing 70, it just kills my fuel economy. i haye been looking at rebuilding and boreing a 8v1.6 with the older trans to take advantage of the higher OD to see if it may be useable on the highway. all that comes after the optima, alternator, yj suspension and winch. all of which need to be installed.
