I want a small 9mm that I can pocket carry. I finger fucked a Taurus 709 Slim today, and even with my giant hands, it felt very comfortable. I'm hesitant to drop any money on a Taurus given their track record of shitty guns.

I'm still considering a Kel-Tec PF9, but they appear to have a pretty shitty track record too. Ive checked out the P11, better track record, but it may be juuuust a little too big to pocket carry.

I'd like to try out a Kahr PM9, however none of the local shops have them, and they have no idea when they will be able to get them.

Any other suggestions? I really am not interested in anything in .380, everyone down here is still hoarding it, and even when it does show up, its WAY overpriced.

Any thoughts on these? Any other suggestions?

A friend of mine got the taurus 709 slim...... shot 10 rounds through it and the rear sight flew off as well as a defective trigger.

He took it back to the store who tried to stall, but after they saw how shitty the gun was, gave him a full refund plus money off of a new Khar cw9.

I shot, and really liked the cw9 but i dont know how it would work for a pocket carry, although it is smaller than my Glock 26.

Yeah, I just dont know if I can drop the coin on a Taurus. I know their president made some comments recently about how they are making a commitment to not make shitty guns anymore, but I just dont know. $400 is still a lot of money to drop on a piece of shit. The 709 does have a pretty nice trigger though...

The way I look at it...... If it has to work when I need it to, do I have 100% confidence its going to go bang?

This 709 issue my friend had all transpired last week, so it was a new gun, I don't know the production date though.

I wish i would have got a chance to shoot that taurus before he took it back, I was doing some looking and was excited to shoot it, but it was only in his possession for 2 hours. He went from the store, to the gun club, and then back to the store. :sonicjay:

Every manufacturer has some that slip through the cracks. Look at my XD for example, most people have them for thousands and thousands of rounds without a single hiccup, but mine FTE's a few times every couple hundred rounds. I would obviously put several hundred rounds through the gun before carrying it, but I think I am willing to give it a chance.

Have you ever fondled a Ruger SR9c? Are they pocketable?

personally ive shot two or three of those 709's and had nothing but issues. one slide cracked at about 300 rounds, and the other also had a defective trigger that basically fell apart. imo stay away from taurus semi's. i like their revolvers but what can really go wrong with those. the lcp is a nice pocket gun and i like mandas bersa thunder in my pocket. i know your not looking for a 380 but thats what i had to get her to hide on her small frame. i normally carry a glock 19 in a iswb holster up front and can hide it all summer with no issues. ive shot itchys pm9 and thought it was alright i just didnt like the trigger, seemed to long of a pull those can be had for between 450-500 up here. i also liked the pk380 i know its a 380 again but nice to hide compairable to the pm9. just my .02 i talk all day about guns

I have been looking at compact/sub compact 9mm's recently, and I really like the looks of the H&K p2000 SK. They aren't cheap, but all the reviews I have read on their pistols are great. I need to find a shop that has one in stock that I can go fondle before I make my mind up.

Glock 19: simple, effective and reliable.
I've got an XD that I carry iwb, but it gets so fucking hot here that my supertuck is unbearable. I'm heading down to a rental range south of town today to put some rounds through a pf9 and whatever else they have.

I've heard a few stories of the triggers falling apart on the 709's, but I've also heard that taurus is under new management, and their customer service has improved considerably since the first of the year. I've also talked to several people who love them.

Guy at the gunshop was trying to tall me into a s&w 642, but .38 isn't cheap, and its only got 5 shots.

Annnnnnnd.... the saga continues.

I ran down to the gun shop this morning, and they were sold out of the pf-9. On my way back into town, I decided to swing by another shop, where they did in-fact have the pf-9, for $250 out the door. Hmmm... yeah, its funny when you are about to drop a couple hundred bucks on something how picky you can get. If felt like complete shit in my hand, and felt very cheap, the trigger was horrendous. Very much unlike the one I shot last week. So... back to the drawing board.

They did have a Kahr PM9 in stock, but it was the version with the thumb safety and it was $615. Holy fucking balls. I'm sure its a great little gun, but fuck me, I can get a Sig 238 for less than that.

So, the first place called me back after I got to work, and said UPS dropped off some pf-9s.. I ran down and picked one up. I checked the serial numbers and it was a new production, just like the one I shot last week. Feels very very different than the early pf-9. I bought it, and I'm happy with it. Going to start breaking it in tomorrow.

200rds of UMC, and zero malfunctions. Recoil is NASTY on this little thing! I didnt shoot very accurately, but I'm not sure if its me not being used to the LONG DAO trigger pull, or of its just the nature of the beast. Did I mention that the recoil is nasty? I left the range an hour ago, and I still have an imprint of the grip on the palm of my hand.

I actually just bought a PF9 today as well. Put 50 rounds through it and yes, the recoil is pretty nasty. Feels a little like a .40 being such a small pistol. No problems with it though either. I took it apart, gave it a little cleaning and an oiling, shot my box of fifty and am going to clean it again, and shoot a bunch more tomorrow after I buy another box of ammo.

I bought mine because a friend has one and has had it since they came on the market. He has about 1000 rounds through it without any problems, and carries it every day.

As far as accuracy, I was expecting much, but at 10, 20, and 30 feet, I only put 4 rounds out of 50 outside of a paper plate. I think that was me twitching from the long ass trigger pull, being that I'm used to an 1/8 inch pull on my 1911.

:sonicjay: its not a range gun what did you expect

Glad you found something that works for you, people tend to get all caught up in getting what people tell them to and not what works for them.
