well we just got back from the vet. had to put our bernese down. He was 9 and has been going downhill for the better part of the last 8 months.
We rescued him from a breeder who took him back because the original family could no longer care for him when he was 2 and nobody wanted him cause he was runty. my daughter was a year and a half and when she toddled up to him at the breeder she jammed her hand in his mouth and said "doggie" we said "his name is scout" she replied "sha sha" and home he came with us. from that day he latched on to her and was always by her side and greatly disliked when she wasn't around. if she woke up at night he was all business and made damn well sure you were out of bed ready to take care of her. he was a great dog and will be very much missed. here is a pic of him in his younger days.
