well i got 3 out of 4 out witha press. I can not get the lower passenger side out. I bent nate4d's press trying to get it out but no luck :tonka: . I do not have a set of torch's but may be able to borrow a mapp gas setup i think. any idea on how to get this mofo out.

this is on a 2000 TJ with a dana30 c'd axle.

You guys are not talking about heating up a control arm or axle housing are you?

You can get them out dry - like removing a rusty bolt (tighten and loosen a bolt). In this case press the ball joint in and out - clean up the sides with sandpaper to make things easier. Use a penetrating oil.

Too much heat on anyting will weaken the metal.

How did you get 3 of them out without a press? I have replaced my ball joints 6 times in the last 3 years and have always needed to use a press.

just to let others know that read this thread. harbor frieght sells a 4x4 ball joint replacing kit for relatively cheap. I've been using it for yrs without a problem replacing my ball joints.
