Well I started working on my truck again last wk. I have had this truck for almost 12 yrs, it was pretty close to stock when i bought it back in 97'. This will be the 3rd major build session for this truck. The first build I swapped out the drivetrain for a chevy vortec v6, 4l60e tranny, and a chevy tcase. I also installed a 5 inch superlift suspension kit and did some chevota type mods like chevy steering column, instrument cluster, bucket seats, center counsel and more. On the second build I installed a fiberglass box, .456 gears, locker in the rear, ditched the lift blocks for lift springs and painted the truck purple.

Here is a pic of it when i got it

This pic is the start of the first build on the truck.

This pic is just the rolling chasis

This pic is the donor truck were I got the motor and tranny from

This pic is setting the motor and tranny on the frame

This is a pic from the top with motor and tranny on the frame

Here is a pic of all the wiring I had to swap into the truck

Anyway just a start to my project post I will post more info and pics as I find them. As I mentioned this will be the 3rd build for the truck. These are pics from the first build. Hope you enjoy following the build.

Unfortunately I cannot find the pics from the second build, maybe i didnt take any, I cant remember. But heres a pic from silver lake last yr.

This time around Ive got some cool plans, for starters i was going to fix the hole I noticed developing in the floor of the cab, but decide to go a little further because the cab is getting pretty bad. So the plan is to rebuild the cab with a cage integrated into it. The cage inside the cab will attach to the cage I will be building over the bed, this should strengthen the truck immensely. I also plan to put some seating and padding in the bed when I do that cage, eventually I will make a soft top for that also.

Last yr I had to section the frame because it was really weak and cracked in the typical spot for these trucks. So this yr I want to build a whole new frame from scratch. Right now the plan is to do some sort of 4 link on bags in the rear and build a long travel independent setup in the front. PreRunner style, you dont see to many people doing this type of a build with these trucks, usually they ditch the IFS and put a straight axle in. But I like to be different and have always like the prerunner look so I am going that route. This should be interesting as I will be making as many of the parts as I can. There are some kits that you can buy but they are outrageously expensive.

And, yes I will be powder coating everything!! Ive even got some ideas on how to pc the frame. Its a little different process since the frame wont fit in my oven but i think we will figure it out, it will be beneficial to us if we can because I have to turn them away now. :(

although I'm not sure how much of it I will get to right now. Whatever I dont do now i will do in the fall.

Anyway heres some pics from the work last wk.

A little more progress, not as much as would like but things are a little crazy around here right now. We got the cab braced, holes cut in the floor with braces going down to the frame.

Next up, cut the floor out, remove cab mounts and start fabricating new cab mounts and roll cage.

I also have to fabricate a new tubing bender for this project, I have a game plan and material for that, so hopefully it wont hold me up to much.

It seems the further I get into this project the busier I get with pc work so i hope that doesnt slow me down too much i want this thing trail worthy again by the end of may. If I get held up on it too much I think I will hold off on the new frame and suspension till fall. Its too early to call right now, I'll decide when I get the cab done.

Nice Toy. Keep up the good work.

did I used to see this on wheeler rd/state st area?
Yeah, I used to live there. That is where it turned purple, lol. It also got a few other mods at that time. Apparently I didnt take any pics on that build because I cant find any.

Yeah, I need to update this a little. Summer has been pretty busy so not alot of progress on the truck like I had hoped. I have been working on fabricating a custom dash. Ive spent way more time on it than I wanted to, but I think the end result will be worth it. I also got some 4 point harnesses and mounted the seats. I'll try and get some new pics up soon.
