Brave rider to race passed the department during a shift change. The Pontiac portion of the chase lasted 32 seconds. The motorcycle flew 42 feet in the air before it landed. The Tahoe flew 38 feet before it landed. There was a 2 foot drop off on the side of the road. The part of M-59 where that occurred is an abortion--I was uncomfortable going 35 on it 2 days ago--I can't even imagine going 100+ on a bike.

The officer is beat up, really bad--and will be for a while.

Wow, 42 ft. To bad he didn't get f'ed up more. Ass hats.

anyone know what he was on, or why he was running?

Yeah that section of road has been messed up for almost a year now. Glad I don't have to drive it anymore.

on a side note, anyone notice the spelling and grammar issues in that article?
Anyway, this is why some areas don't allow chasing, because it puts a lot of people at risk, and that's risky for the motorcyclist on dirt!

I just drove that stretch on Tuesday night and I recall no dirt or gravel anywhere. That sounds fishy. No factual basis for saying it other than being familiar with the construction zone, but I suspect that the Officer was trying to overtake the bike on the wrong side of the barrels or something.

The article also does not say anything about the bike crashing. Only that there was a foot chase.

Did you travel East Bound? I was traveling eastbound a few days ago and slid all over when I had to slam on my brakes for a motorcycle getting on at MLK that decided he would rather speed up to try to get in front of me then yield to the right of way. The westbound was totally clean when I came back. That being said, there have been other times I have traveled that eastbound stretch and it was completely clear/clean. So there are two totally plausible possibilities right? Either the construction guys didn't do a very good job securing the site at the end of the day or the PPD is going to say that the construction site was not secure so they have someone else to blame for their reckless pursuit. No?

According to the information I got from the PPD, it was only 32 seconds from the time the cruiser took off to the time the crash occurred. It's my understanding the the cruiser left from the PPD parking lot.

Yes, eastbound. It is not a dirt road and there were a number of vehicles travelling in front of me with much larger footprints than one motorcycle. I had no issues with my vision being obscured. That's the part that sounds fishy to me, not a possible loss of traction.

Well one of the other articles states that the motorcyclist pulled off of 59 and onto the side they are working on which is gravel and crashed. The officer followed and did the same thing.

Curious if he was on a stolen bike or not.
