Anyone running this in there rig? I just ordered some and am going to cut it out myself. I was thinking I would sell some if other people wanted them because I have to buy a whole sheet. I will be doing my tj so I will have the pattern for that. They will probably be about $150 cut and ready to go. This will be U.V. protected and scratch resistant. I looked up speed glass and it was like $350 each. I believe the stuff I just ordered is the same stuff. I have gone through 5 windshields on my tj already and this stuff is suppose to be really hard to break. This is not DOT approved just so you know. It will be a whole lot less weight than glass also. Let me know what you think.

They only issue I can see with running it on the road is getting into an accident and having your head slam into it. With a TJ this is less of an issue than a YJ (airbags.)

Beyond that I think even with scratch coating it still may have issues scatching.

What do you mean? It's basically lexan, it doesnt shatter and it's more flexible than glass. I'd rather hit my head on this stuff than a glass windshield. :thumb:

Plus for the amount of time I actually drive my jeep, let alone use my wipers, it should last me years and years. At hardware shows you can beat on samples of this stuff with a 3lb hammer and it will not break, crack or scratch. For the price it cannot be beat since it will last as long as about 73 windshields.

lexan the whole way around on my buddies xj. have them set up so the power windows and everything work. works good except for the scratches. why did you buy a whole sheet? I get stuff custom cut on a cnc router from alro plastics in jackson all the time. i have a bunch laying around here but its not the scratch resistant kind.

If you get in a bad enough accident to have your head go through the windshield I dont think the material is going to do much either way, you're just about dead.
You've never seen a head imprint in a windshield before?

My head hit a CJ windshield, shattered it.

So I'm either dead, or it's possibe to not die and shatter a windshield with your head.

Ok I dont know about shipping but they will be $150 cut for the tj. I am in Midland alot and can get them up there for free.

Again these are not D.O.T. so the road thing is not part of it. This is use at own risk.

I do have blanks cut a little bigger than tj and yj that are ready for cutting if you would like to just buy a panel and do it yourself. I would actually prefer this.

Alro did not want to cut up the sheets with the uv and scratch resistance and I did not have the pattern yet either so I just ordered a sheet. Also I can a better deal from a different company.

Off the top of my head I have sheets cut at like 54" wide and 19" tall if that would work for the scout also. Let me know. Again they can be cut with a jig saw, band saw or whetever you have.

i ordered some for my jeep earlier this week, and didnt even see this thread lol. I have read a lot about it, and it seems the way to go. I should have mine installed next week sometime.

While we are on the subject of it, I want to put a bend in the bottom of my speedglass to deflect water away from the dash. I dont run a windshield, and this would be mounted directly to the cage. I have read that lexan (polycarbonate) can be bent cold, in a brake. Does anyone have experience with this?

I tested some yesterday and it bent with no problem. I just stuck it in a vice and pulled it over like metal. A break would be better for sure but thought I would test a scrap piece first. I am doing the same thing with mine.
