I wanted to build my Boxer a new house to hang out in during the summer while were swimming so I drew up a couple of designs and decided on this one. I was going for a rustic look and I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out. He likes it to and has already been hanging out it.

Thanks for the compliments guys. He does lay on the porch and has been inside a few times just to sniff around. He is an inside dog but I wanted him to have his own place for the summer since we have an in-ground pool and our gate to our backyard seems to be a revolving door I didn't want him to slip out. I plan on installing either a dog run or I will put something on the house so I can attach a leash on it. I may have to install some miniature railings to prevent him from getting tangled around the posts.

Nice work!! What was the build cost?

I had originally budgeted around $150 but you guys know that never works out so my total ended up around $220. A lot of the cost came from the cedar and shingles. I saved some money by using cedar dog eared fence planks for the siding. Everything was treated with a clear sealant even the plywood before the cedar went on. The carpet is indoor/outdoor with a rubber backing on it and it dries extremely fast so I don't think that will be a problem either. It really should last for a long time. I've had a few friends request one for their dog but I don't think I would build one for less than $600 so I don't plan on getting many orders.:sonicjay: I know it sounds crazy but I think I may run electric out to it and put a porch light on it just for shits and giggles and if I do I will install a fan under the porch and inside the house for ventilation. It will also be nice if I end up spending the night in there from time to time.

the fan may not be a bad idea, was going to mention raising it to keep air flowing underneath it so it doesnt rot out

for the porch light, you could also go buy one of the solar yard lights and tear it apart, remove the solar panel and extend the wires so you can put the panel somewhere else, then hang the light under the porch roof...solar lights seem to have come quite aways recently...was just looking at some the other day that were much brighter then the ones I had seen before
