Is there currently a map of seasonal roads and trails in the Northern Michigan area? More specifically, right around 131 and the 131/31 junction here in petoskey.

I've thought about starting to save Tracks on my GPS of all the trails in the area, but if such a thing exists, I'll save myself some work.

The multi-county maps found at gas station have the detail, right down to marshes, ridges and 2 tracks. Mi ORV maps and the new NFS maps won't do it, and I believe the maps are more inclusive than purchased mapping for gps.

I guess that's kinda what I was asking. Sorry I wasn't more clear. Are there a set of detailed two track maps for GPS available?

Where all have you been so far??? I can tell u a hole crap ton of places to go!!!
I usually run the seasonal roads up north of Harbor Springs, and I recently found a whole string of them down off of Bear River Rd, just past where it turns into Maxwell Rd. I found some really good mudholes out there, but there's a lot of private property too.

This is why i'd like a map! lol

I'm pretty sure I've not been on anything protected, I RARELY leave seasonal roads when I'm by myself.

Printed map or for your GPS? My GPS Maps have all of the certified county roads, the MVUM for the USFS lands (won't help for the area you refer to) and more. Glance at the GPS and know if it's a county road or if it's a forest road on public land.

If you are just looking for a printed map, I can make one up easily enough.
Here's one for that general area (Sled map).

I picked up some for my Garmin hand held, but they are expensive. From what i hear the DeLorme hand held units have cheaper topo's but not quite the detail. I love mine, it really makes it easy to pick up on the wetlands, rivers and so on especially when you get out to trails like near Matz road, or off of the CCC roads. I like to have my GPS, A compass, and both a plat book and the Michigan Atlas & Gazetteer book (about $12) in my rig. Sounds like alot, but its actually kinda nice to have everything right with ya.

A printed one would do fine, I was really looking for one for my GPS though. I really just want to know where the trails are, and what I can and can't go on. I thought I found one last summer that looked fun, but it said no wheeled vehicles, it was a snow mobile trail. I also heard somewhere that they are fair game in the summer, but not when there's snow on the ground.

Let's get together sometime, now that it's getting nicer out, I'm sure we can find something.

awalters, I think I know some of the trails you've been on in Harbor Springs. I've been exploring trails of some kind around West Brutus road in pleasantview township. They'll take you all around the west side of Boyne Highlands.

http://maps.google.com/maps/mm?ie=UTF8&hl=en&ll=45.488719,-84.961224&spn=0.040495,0.081539&z=14

My son and I were out tonight and almost explored a trail I found off E Brutus Rd, just east of Pleasantview Rd, looks almost like its part of the north country trail. It was late so we only drove in maybe 100 yrds before we found a way to turn around, but it was definitely two-track, no idea how technical it gets though, we might find out next time we go for a ride. Google Maps on my blackberry shows its state land all through there.
