I just bought a 2" lift for my gf's 01 grand cherokee, and i'm going to get new tires for it as well. I want to get a set of 245/75-R16s.

I was looking at the Goodyear DuraTrac's, they seem like a really good tire for the price and every review i've read says they're a pretty good tire on just about any surface; with a few bad apples here and there. I've found them for $155 plus shipping and that's cheaper than a set of BFG a/ts.

The jeep doesn't mud or trail ride, the most it does is drive out to my camp and the occasional dirt road. I want it to look nice and be a good DD so I don't really need a mud tire but I'd like a nice look other than some junk like a Dayton timberline a/t

Anyone run these tires? Any other suggestion for tires that would be a good buy?

FYI, you should be able to go bigger.
I've had 245/65/r17 (1" smaller) on my WJ stock with sagging springs for 4 years without any issues.
I probably could but I just want a bit bigger tire so a 245 should be great

So I might be changing my mind...i found a set of American Prospector A/Ts for $480 Shipped.

Anyone have any experience with those tires? They're made by cooper and have pretty similar tread pattern to the Cooper Discoverer ATRs and acutally they're similar to the Toyo Open Country A/T as well.

A set of 245/75-R16 Prospector A/Ts is about $160 cheaper than the DuraTrac, worth the extra $$ for the goodyears?

I had American Prospector A/T's on my Jeep for about six months until I bumped up to a 31" tire. Treated me pretty good, never had any traction problems in snow, ride was decent.

Edit: sold them to a girl I work with, and I've noticed they've gotten really choppy on her Dakota, but there's a good chance that it's because she doesn't really maintain her truck well.

One more edit: Sold my first set of Duratracs at work today, and they balanced out REALLY nice. Much better than anticipated.

Yea, i've heard nothing but good things on the DuraTracs, i'm wondering if the little bit of extra cash is worth it for them though, the gf's jeep rarley goes offroad, her idea of off roading is pulling on the side of the pavement, and she occasionally drives down my camp road.

480 shipped for the prospector's is a pretty enticing offer though, and although I haven't found many reviews for them, the ones I did find were all good though, but like any other a/t, they're nothing speical mud/rock wise

I know a few people that have the prospectors and they are pretty happy with them. I know the prospector is a house brand tire from belle tire. If you take in the price to bell tire, you might be able to get a better deal since you don't have to pay for shipping at the store.

well does she drive it in winter?
Yea, it's her DD.

I didn't realize that the Prospector is a brand at Belle tire, maybe I go in there monday and see if they'll match the price

Yea, i'm prolly just going to stick with the DuraTracs, they not much more expensive than the prospectors, and they look a lot better too lol. I found a set of 245s for 630 Shipped, sounded like a good price to me

I have them on my Rubicon, that we use like a beater. Their is little road noise with them, no vibration so far. They are great aired down in off road for protecting the beads. We are running at 8-1/2 back and 10 front and have not rolled them off with four people inside and on racks and tree stumps.

The one draw back they have is mud. They are for shit in the mud. They load up immeadiatly, and wont throw it out. Sand Great rock great trees, and stumps and shit no problems. Get in the mud and you are done.
