Ok this XJ is driving me crazy. When I am in 4 wheel drive I get a clanking sound from either side of the jeep. Everything on the front is new, the wheel hubs the lower control arms, the ujoints , the gear and pinion, locker, bearings and seals have less then 2000 miles on them. The only thing that is not new is the upper control arms. It does it mostly in 4 wheel drive but sometimes it will in 2wd if it's a real bumpy road.
Could it be the uca's? maybe does it more in 4wd because the front tires are pulling? Thanks for any input.

if You wheel it it's going to make noises. There is nothing You can do to stop them all.

i know you said everything is new but if it has a swaybar i have seen many swaybar links and bushings make noise, hope it helps, i have also had a xj that was lifted and the track bar drop bracket was moving very slightly on the unibody and making an awfully annoying noise

is it possibly the locker? lockers make noise. off road vehicles make funny noises.

could be the transfercase, but im betting its the locker. what kind of locker is it?

good luck tracking it down.
It's a lockright in the front. I don't think it's the transfercase because it seems to come from the front on either side and it's gotten worse over the last few months..I just never heard this noise in any of the other XJ's so it bugs me. I'll find it sonner or later.

Cheak the bracket that holds the tracbar to the frame. The bolt will start to ream the hole out and make a poping noise.

Checked the bracket bolts and the bar itself which is new and everything seems nice and tight.
You'll have to have someone turn the wheel back and forth while you see if it moves .the bolt that holds the tracbar to the bracket . It will fell tight but move when the wheels are turned. You'll have to look close .
