If you were going to buy a POS 4x4, which POS would you buy?
Under $5k, preferably with minimal rust, and as low of miles as possible because I think anything over 100k is going to need shit anyways and the make and model (as long as it isn't European) won't make a bit of difference.

READY...... GO!

Jeep XJ...they made millions of them, they run forever and parts are cheap. If you look around you can find some pretty clean/minimal rust vehicles for $5k or less. Maybe even with lower mileage if you can find an old lady mobile!

X2 on the Tracker. Bought my son one two years ago and him and his older brother cant kill it, and they have tried. 4" Lift and 31's and still the same clutch go figure. Runs like a top.

Any of the GM 400 platform trucks (blazer, suburban). Old, simple to repair, and parts are cheap.

As to be expected, a plethora of shitty suggestions.

However I guess I should have stated my small children will be riding in it with my 6'4" self. Sorry scottie, your faggoty sidekick/tracker/vitara doesnt fit the bill.

I am really loving my 97 4runner. 1997 4runner, no rust, factory electric locker, leather, loaded, 130000 miles $4000. I just bought a 2002 Explorer too. My very very first drive in it was 700 miles and it made it lol.

-s10 and blazer. Or anything on the s10 platform. I hate them. So much.
Every single one I've worked on has the same stupid issues. Plus anyone over 6' will not fit in them.

My suggestions:
99-04 grand cherokee wj
01-03 Durango
Toyota 4 runner without the 3.0
Explorer/sport trac with the 4.0 v6
Nissan xterra

IMO there is nothing great about a S based vehicle but nothing terrible either.
Pros
-cheap
-run forever
-decent mpg
-super cheap and easy to get parts
-can tow a decent size trailer
-small lift is cheap
-good In snow

Cons
-Ride like crap
-MPG lower than what a small vehicle should get
-Typical small ass Chevy wheel wells so no oversize tires
-Meh styling.

A few more cons:
Pain in the ass to work on
Eats motor mounts like candy
Meh interior, not terrible but not comfy
Stupid 2 peice rear driveshaft on some of them
Front driveshaft CV is the weakest joint in the world. There is a c-clip that is all that holds the ball bearings in place and it breaks into a million peices under any tourqe.
Fuel gauge issues galore.
Spider injectors. Need I say more?

Oh and the biggest oversize tire you can fit is a 31 no lift no trimming. I don't think you'd be able to fit anything bigger without major trimming or zr2 a-arms.
