My daughter Erica and her husband Ryan are the new proud parents of my first grandbaby.

born Feb 20, 9lbs 7oz

Welcome Baby Gabriel.

As many know, we were told early in Erica's pregnancy that Gabriel was going to have a cleft lip and possible cleft palate. He was born with a bilateral cleft and full cleft soft and hard palate. He is feeding great and doing wonderfully!!! And as beautiful as they come!!!

We meet with the craniofacial pediatric surgeon and team on Monday in Grand Rapids at Devos Children's Hospital.

Anyone who has any first hand info on this condition, I would love to hear from you!!!!!

What a beautiful baby. I worked with a someone several years ago whose son was born with a severe cleft palate... It took a bunch of us girls bugging him o bring in photos... He was a beautiful baby that would one day have an amazing smile, today he's about 8. It is really great what doctors can do today.

Thanks everyone! It is nice to hear good outcomes. We will have most of our questions answered this monday...like how many surgeries (heard between 6 and 15) THIS was the big reason they had to wait to get married...financing the surgeries and specialists has been a big issue.

I've not found anyone who has had a similar experience to ask questions of. Doctors and nurses are helpful, but amazingly vague. I guess from fear of being sued? The net, for once, is also somewhat lacking in before/after pics and info except for the charities that go overseas to help older children with the same issues. That doesn't really apply either.
