Granted I don't have your vast whole summer of experience under my belt, but thru friends and family I have been around for the moving of 5 modular homes and in every case the movers always want the axles back so they can reuse them.

I agree, someone needs to explain to me how they designed an axle to carry a house one time and never be used again.. :tonka:

Granted, it's not the most desirable design. But it's a metal shaft with threads on the end. They use Timken bearings and a steel hub. The brakes are usually welded on. They will require much more maintenance than travel trailer axles.

The company I worked for did not reuse them. They sent them back to the mobile home manufacturer to be reworked and then reused.

You are correct, they will require much more maintenance. But, the average trailer owner barely knows how to hook up the trailer, much less how to maintain it.

Yeah, my father-in-law just learned about maintenance the hard way. I reminded him to check the air in the tires of his utility trailer. I never thought to ask him if he greased the bearings. I just figured everyone knew that.. :miff:

I like how shit like this comes out of the blue and the web wheeler folk are like OMG DON'T USE THEM YOU NOOB! IIRC Pavementpounder and Muddypaws, Grandman and others have these type of trailer axles and they haven't had problems. I even think PP made his spring over and used it for quite a while before he sold it.

If anything replace the hubs wih a 6 or 8 lug hub so you can run a standard tire size. If ya PM Muddypaws he may still have the part numbers for them

I've had a set cut down and under a commercial trailer for years! 10 years it's been hauling backhoes, skid loaders, cars, small dozers, tons of brick and concreate and gavel. For 10 years It's stopped at weigh stations, never a ticket for anything other than wireing on it. The 30ft tandom international that pulled it beat the hell out of it and it was in two prior accedents. So I'm thinking there fine, just keep them greased.
