I wish I could diag modern cars better.
This jeep runs awesome most of the time, and I honestly think it has a replacement engine, as it was super clean inside, and also the leak down I did a few months ago was really good. ODO reads 253k
But it is a constant battle of misfires.
When I bought it the ECM was bad. P0300 multiple misfires, I had it rebuilt, which was #3 this jeep had. The coil drivers had failed according to the company. I also did the timing set when I did the oil pan because it wasn't that much more work and the chain looked loose. It also got a coil at that time.
Last fall, misfires again. I said what the hell and went and did injectors, plugs, plug wires, and sent the ECM in again. They said they were seeing weird things with it, and it had been rebuilt so many times they recommended a new ECM and I did it.
Turned out that 'new' coil was shit already. so I kept using the factory ECM that was #3 and kept the new one for a spare. Put on OEM Mopar coil this time.
Then a couple weeks ago, intermittent misfires. Changed ECM it went away. Now a couple weeks later, intermittent misfire Cyl #3 but immediately clears and runs. I go out of town, wife is driving it and then it goes all P0300 again and P0306 (CYL6)
I'm done... I'll get charged accordingly but it's off to Dale. I rarely pay a mechanic but I'm done. I finally get to send some support to a vendor shop other than buying parts. I hope it's something stupid, I'll happily pay it.
I'd love to put more money in fun stuff, but I am sick of working on the engine.
I just don't want to keep racking more miles on the Duramax... I'm already at 170k on that.
I hate my car hobby. I need to get one done enough to bring my joy again.
