Is anyone running HID's? I bought my WJ almost a year ago and the PO installed a low beam HID kit. The relay roasted a few months ago. I found what seemed to be the correct relay at NAPA for $20. All the numbers and the diagram matched the original but it did not work at all. I found a cheap one at Advance Auto for $5 and returned the one from NAPA. The cheaper one lasted the last few months but I started the Jeep up this morning and no low beams. Popped the hood to find another burned up relay and had to drive to work with my high beams on, haha! I don't want to be replacing relays all the time but I'm not too familiar with wiring and electronics. Any ideas? I'll post a link to the current relay I'm using.

Ok I just looked at the one I bought and the original one and they are both 40a. I'm not sure if the PO replaced it at any point. The original relay is a different brand though.

I guess I'm wondering if anyone on here is running an HID setup, if they could tell me what their relay is rated at.

I'll have to check the fuse size, not sure. I haven't noticed anything else being compromised in the wiring harness. I guess I'll double check tomorrow. The relay was tucked down next to the battery in a tight spot. Maybe it was just getting too warm there. I was thinking of relocating it this time to see if that helps.

Tried a different brand relay but like the one from napa, it doesn't work at all. Kind of weird, it has the same specs as the one I bought last. I wanted to try the other brand because it was rated for more wattage. It clicks when I plug it in but the lights will not turn on. I hate wiring.

The inline fuse for the HIDs is a 20a. It is not blown and I don't see any issues with the harness.

A standard 5 post relay works the same. Some are made with the poles in different location. On the bottom side of the relay it should have numbers stamped by the posts. 30 87 87a 85 86. 30 is constant power in 85 and 86 are the the switch power and ground 87a is normally closed output 87 is normally open output. Get a better relay with the same layout and you'll be fine.

Well I learned a little bit about HID bulbs. I'm new to them so I didn't realize this but they don't burn out like a regular halogen bulb. A few months ago when I first had issues they were working intermittently and I guess that is the first sign of failing HID bulbs. I ordered a new pair of bulbs, installed them this weekend and they work flawlessly with the new relay. I don't know if the relay was failing because of the bad bulbs or not but I'll keep an eye on that to see if it lasts longer this time. I did relocate it to a different spot under the hood also.

Sounds like you have an issue somewhere else and not with the hid kit, I've had many hid setups in many vehicles, they are plug and play, and run off a ballast, most the time a ballast will crap out. Same concept as Florencent lights sometimes they work sometimes they don't, cold weather takes longer to get them to fire up,

I have projectors, never said I didn't.

I ended up getting rid of the HID's though and went to a set of quality halogen bulbs. It wasn't worth it to me to have the fancy looking lights and deal with the multiple issues with the HID's. I'm sure a higher quality harness might not have as many issues but it wasn't worth it to me in the long run.
