I was curious, is it that much cheaper to make your own trailer than to purchase one from someone other than perhaps a chain store? I'm thinking about a 15-20 footer tandem with brakes. I'm fairly confident in my ability to weld up a deck, but i'm thinking about steel cost right now versus buying a trailer outright.

And a lot less hassle. If you buy the motorhome it is likely you will have to modify the trailerhitch, add a brake controller and rewire it. Now add 4 weeks of trailer build and it will be mid September before you go on a trip.

Oh no, I'm already aiming for 2 weeks to go out. I can flat tow right now without a problem. I'm looking at long haul trips where I want some means of getting a broken jeep home.

i built mine, with the steel from and old trailer home trailer. i got the frame and 2 6000lb axles for two hundred dollars off of a friend. i ended up having about 1300 into it when it was all said and done. its the best pulling trailer i have ever had or used.
