My truck is making a sound that kind of sounds like the starter is trying to engage while driving. The sound is coming from underneath me. It will make the noise off and on and will continue to make noise if i put it in neutral. The noise never seems to speed up no matter what gear I'm in, how fast I'm going or how high the RPM is. It is a constant noise when it makes in. but it doesnt always do it. If it isnt the starter, the noise sounds about the same as it would when you try to start a car that is already running.

Would that effect shifting at all? It seems everything is normal except the noise...

Pull the starter off and check it, also check the flywheel teeth.

my first thought would be it has shit in it, like dirt etc.

But now i'm thinking it would probably change with engine speed and possibly get worse depressing the clutch.

Well I pulled the starter and everything looked fine, I put it back together and i drove it around and it didnt make the noise
