I can't say I ever heard of fender law, but when I used to race 25 years back we had to run tires that satyed withen 1" of the wheel opening to maintain a stock status. the only thing I do know that applies is the mud flap height. it has to be within 12" of the ground on the rear most axle on a open wheeled vehicle.

City of Fenton Police Department: they also said this law is not enforced very well in our city. (i worked for the city as a summer job and talked to a few of the cops)

Nrth: i would say build them with a small flare in them so that you cover most of your tire, But dont leave it flush with the body width.

I don't have a source for this, but I was under the impression that any part of the tire wider than the body of the vehicle was illegal in Michigan. I've heard of people getting tickets for it, or getting harassed because of it. Then again, that might not even be the law.

 

if thats the case then all those hondas in the city with 12' wides would all be illegal. I don't see them being pulled over. I have run stuff that stuck out 3-4" past the fenders and never thought it was problem, the cops never bothered me around here

Blue torch fab also makes them. but all 3 companies are top notch so u'll have a nice product anyway u go.. I would go with JCR just because they seem like cool guys and would rather support someone on this site.. :swampjeep

All that stuff *should* be covered in the Michigan vehicle code, which is Act 300 of 1949. Stuff like steering components, body mounts, bumper heights, lights, etc, is all in there. I believe it covers mud flaps, which are only needed on commercial trucks.

I duno i was just sitting around the shop one day and a few of our "finest" walked in they were there filling their cars.. they said HI to me and being the "new guy" i introduced my self which turned into a 15 mintuite conversation and i popped that question in the conversation, they told me no more than 3" protruding with wheels straight ahead, Though this rule is very rarely enforced in Fenton or genesee county for that matter, (unless of course it is obserdly over 3")

the only thing he said has he dident like the tires sticking out which i have seen jeeps with more tire on the out side and apparently he dident like that i have no side mirrors. i cant really remember what else. When i put the tj flares on they covered up a little more. other then being a smart ass to the cop that was the only time i ever had a problem. and as for the side mirrors i still dont have them and have never been ticketed for it

 

This 3" theory is just folk lore. I just spent 1 hour searching the web for legislation and can't find a damn thing that states any law against protruding tires. Unless someone can find and post the legislation, I call bullshit. And I have heard the rumors float around for years, but never heard of it generating a ticket or going before a court.
