i recently posted a question regarding how to tell the difference between a 3.73- and a 3.92+ carriers. Verbal (typed) descriptions are great but nobody could show me the pic of the difference. I know the pic is shitty but the difference can be seen on the carriers

The one on the Left is a 3.73-

The one on the right is a 3.92+

I agree that what you have circled are "differences", but when defining differences in functional parts its important to keep in mind what really matters. When describing the differences in any mechanical assembly, you always want to rule out anything that can possibly vary. Those areas you circled can look very different if you were to put a bunch of carriers side-by-side and the differences would still have no impact on the functionality of the carrier (think LSD carrier shape). If you can absolutely rule out the possibility of any other castings existing, then you can probably use those features as reference points since the big shoulder and the angle of the webbing on the underside is obvious.

However, the critical aspect that makes the carriers different and directly impacts their functionality will always be the cross-car position of the ring mounting surface. That's the whole purpose for the existance of the two carriers. If you measure to that, you will always get it right.
