I have never out right sold a vehicle I own, I'm too greedy I like to keep them.

Well i put my explorer up for sale a couple weeks ago on CL.

I had a guy from Saginaw call me tonight and he JUST saw in on CL and said If I will take $2500 Cash he will coem get it tomorrow.

I do not want to take $2500 cash, thats like $800 less than I'm asking my obo price.

How do I go about like counter offering with this guy who has never seen or driven my vehicle?

So your racist? If you have a thing against black guys, go with poder_bobs idea.

No I'm not racist by any means. I just don't want to see something I've had for a long as time destroyed :(

I can't take the first cash offer of $2200 because the kids mom probably said no :sonicjay:
Honestly, $2500 for a clapped out exploder isn't bad. Tell him to come look at it and take it home. I'm sure your neighbors and parents would appreciate it.
Clapped out?

There is nothing wrong with the truck, no rust, minus the couple small spots of surface rust, brand new exhaust and cats, new transfer case, interior is in great shape, everything works etc.

My Explorer looks better than 98% of the 2nd gens I see
I sold my 97 explorer with the 5. slow in it like 6-7 years ago for like 3 grand. It was rust free, 120k on it with a set of polished 17's on it.

So you have reliability issues with it? 4.0 v6 and 200k+ miles on it?
$2500 in your pocket, a load in your tummy and another spot of green grass on the lawn. Sounds like a win to me.
I can tell just by how he sounds on the phone he isn't anyone I'd mess with.

So what you are saying is that you would entertain the offer if it were someone else?

i'd take the $2500 for it. KBB usually isn't very accurate. besides who has $3400 in cash just laying around in these times.
u cant just look at KBB. gotta look at other vehicles like yours in your area.

Why would someone pay more for yours when others are out there in the same condition, or better, for the same price, or less.

Explorers are hard to sell for decent price because they are SUV's. I tried to sell my 96 and it didn't sell for 2 years. It eventually got to the point where I just gave up and took it in. 400 bucks. It's not in as good a Shape as yours probably but the inside was Mint. If you let it sit It'll start to leak, if you sell it now you'll have, at least, 2500 dollars. I would take that in a heartbeat.
typical... She offers Oral, and then refuses to respond. :sonicjay:
book may be $3390 but that is only if someone is willing to pay $3390... book is more of a suggestion. reality is take the first offer its normally the best
reality is nowhere near that if it's posted on Craigslist.

Craigslist is actually quite a bit worse than GL4x4's classifieds as it relates to lowballers.

When I sold our heap of shit venture I had 13 people all offer me 60% or less than my asking price without seeing it. All used the obnoxious "cash offer" - like I really expected them to get a loan on a clapped out 9 year old $2,500-3,000 vehicle
No reliabilty issues at all. I just bought a 98 Dodge with a Cummins so I have my new 4wd vehicle, I have my car, my motorcycle and the Explorer. I don't need to sell the Explorer but if I can get what I'd like then I will.

Now onto those Explorers in my area.

1st one - Older, way more miles, only 4wd. Mines AWD. Makes a diff (not a big one but options wise yes)

2nd - Older, way more miles, not as many options, 4Wd not AWD

3rd, Newer by a year, but has a new motor and tranny. I don't even consider that a comparison.

I've had no issues with it leaking at all. I usually park it 6-8 months out of the year depending on when the snow comes and drive my car, never once have I had a leak or an issue with it at all.

No oral for anyone thanks, I'm not desperate ;)

I called the guy back tonight to try to hash out what I felt was a fair deal. Some chick answered and told me she would have him call me back in 10min. It's been 3 hours, soooo I will try to call back tomorrow I guess...

I have a feeling if he does buy it, it will get gigantic rims and like 40 tvs and some crazy skittles paint job..haha

Actually for the year the truck is pretty clean, no wheel well rot, no hatch rot, etc, I've taken very good care of it.
Wow. BJ wasn't denied.

Taking things out of context! FTW :woot:
Dont take 2500 for it dude. Tell him 3,000 or he doesnt get it. Have a buddy there with you. I doubt it will matter to him. Its a 75% chance its drug money anyways. haha. So he didnt work real hard for it. Just tell him no less than 3k.
This whole thing about making offers seems to get hashed over every so often. I make offers all the time with out seeing the vechicle in person. I have a hard time making a four hour drive to look at some thing that I can just make an offer on right away. No since in pulling a trailer and driveing my truck across state to just make an offer and get turned down. Of course 99% of the time when I make an offer I buy it when I get there. There is always that 1% of the time that people seem to misrepersent their for sale item. If it is close to what they say though I will bring cash and buy. There is really no need to test drive anything anyway. I have made many purchases on here and other sites without looking or driveing the vechicle. I seldom even drive them when I do look in person. Shoot when I was over seas last winter I bought one and paid by pay pal and than picked it up 3 weeks later.
That said if you do not want to sell it for $2500 just say no. If you want to counter with $3000 or whatever just say so. Or tell him I am not taking less.

It's really pretty simple, if you don't want to take $2500 for it (which sounds like a reasonable offer to me), then you tell them (politely) "No thanks, I feel that my asking price is fair, as the vehicle is in good shape, and I've had offers slightly better than your $2500 offer. If you want to come take a look at it, you're more than welcome, but you'd need to get a little more than 2500 out of it"

If you're nice about it, and he's not just a tire kicker, chances are... if he wants it bad enough, and it is in good shape... that he'll come and take a look at it and offer a slightly more appealing offer for it. If not, you'll eventually come across a buyer at the right price.... EVENTUALLY.

So you know that because he sounded black on the phone that it's drug money and he didn't work hard for it? Does that mean that because you're a white trash ******* that you spend all your money on busch light? You're a moron and your logic sucks.

Seems like 75% of the time things on c-list are misrepresented when I drive to look at them.
