It's almost funny, that only a couple months ago, it was global warming that was going to kill us all. I'm waiting to see if after the initial panic, once we get to assessing blame (because you know it will happen) if the global warming cult starts claiming this as another sign that they're right.

I believe it's serious. Panic serious, no but never the less, serious. The fatality rate appears to be higher than the typical flu by a factor of 10. Still pretty small numbers but bigger. I believe the greater problem is the rate of expansion once it hits an area. The emergency centers aren't prepared for how quickly it can spread. This is why attempting to slow it down and widen out the bell curve makes sense.

For those skeptics who say it is all media and the dems trying to destroy Trump, there are billions of dollars being lost over this. None of these big companies, pro sports or NCAA sports are shutting down just to fuck Trump. Nor is Trump closing the border because he is afraid of the dems. Not to mention the stories coming out of Italy.

It's serious and may very well be being over hyped. The difficult problem is - what if it's not? It's far better to be over cautious and say OOPS than watch the population die and say OOPS.
Agreed 100%!

I think it really reiterates the inevitability of the whole thing. We're talking about a highly contagious airborne virus. Even wearing masks (and the right masks at that) will only delay the spread. However, delaying the spike in cases is what will aid our healthcare system in dealing with it.

We're up to twelve cases in Michigan but there's no doubt that there are likely hundreds, if not thousands, more that are not and to get tested due to not meeting the CDCs guidelines. The amount of tests we have done as a country is abysmal comparatively. Expect this to get much worse before it gets better.

Yep

Yep and that's why it's serious.

Please just STOP. This is a medical discussion, not political or religious.
Yes and yes.

The fact that so many people are still running around joking about the seriousness with this is incredible. I don't care what you believe the root cause is. This is going to run it's course and it's not going to be pretty.

I seen that one but when I was reading about it on one of the other forums this is what was said “ The Galveston Plague of 1920. While Ebola is the most recent incredibly unexpected disease to show up in Texas, it isn't anywhere near the most deadly. Long before anyone even knew Ebola existed, the city of Galveston grappled with an outbreak of bubonic plague“

It killed dozens of people in Galveston. The Spanish flu killed dozens of millions of people world wide.

I’ll be serious for a minute.
It’s not the virus that kills you, it’s the pneumonia from your body fighting the virus.
A few years back I was feeling weak. I could not walk a hundred yards. GermanGurl took me to the ER, where they discovered my PSO2 was 47%. They said I was very sick and needed to put me down so they could help me. Eight weeks or so later I wake up, on a ventilator at SSI. The atrophy from being in a coma left me immobile for several months after.
To be honest, I had no cough or flu symptoms. I just felt weak, and it almost killed me.

Okay, back to my happy place...

I see the airlines shutting down for a few weeks in the next 48-72 hours. This is creating havoc on a level never seen before. Emergency management all around the country is already getting taxed. The local jails and prisons are chasing their asses trying to figure out how to Stop/combat it when it does arrive because its just a matter of time. There is not enough hospital ICU bed space, doctors or equipment if this goes full scale like it did in Italy.
