I like my little Mazda Protege 2.0 NA 5 speed. Picked it up from a dealer in Lowel who took it on trade for $300 out the door. It needed a mirror and front bearings and looks like someone took a bat to the body. But, I drove the thing home for $300. I have around $700 into it and drive the thing like I am mad at it.

194k or so and it just keeps running. No electronic traction control or other things makes for a fun little car, limited slip front axle also.

I don't know what has been done to it if anything. Someone put a bit of cash into a new modest stock looking exhaust at the very least on the thing. It is quiet at idle until you get on it. My next puddle jumper may be a Mazda after all the abuse this thing has taken in the couple months I have had it. It has all the options you could get with the 4 bolt rims and everything still works perfectly.

Two small vices.
The alternator sometimes squeaks when it first starts up and may last for a few seconds. It is a belt design thing and it is a common issue. If you tighten the accessory belt more it kills the alternator bearings. Just something to live with during the first few seconds.
Not having any kind of traction control and like new high mileage hard tires has made me a bit more careful in the snow. It is probably for the best as I tend to rely on these features even when I know it is stupid to do so when i have them.

So at the end of the day you are saying that I'm stupid and think the only way to do something is my way when in reality I said to look harder... but are doing the same thing you are accusing me of? Is it because I didn't run out and buy a Subaru like you and it appears that you think everyone else should? I always thought you were smart and I was hoping that you were just arguing any and all sides for the fun of it... but now I'm beginning to wonder.

OctothorpeDisappointed.

I mean, I kind of was wondering when you said you think driving a 20lb/hp car was fun. It was a bit concerning when you said that you shouldn't get a WRX STi because turbochargers wear out or something on a 10 year old car. But if driving a 20lb/hp shitbox is "fun" why wouldn't a WRX STi at 10lb/hp be more fun? I mean, I guess you can drive like an asshole in traffic in a 2.5ReallySlow and people will laugh... with you? Maybe that isn't torque steer you feel and it's just a bad CV...

Seriously, I hope you were just arguing for shits and giggles...
Reading comprehension really isn't your thing. Just keep digging, you'll hit bottom eventually.

You set the bar so low that I'm digging to find it so I can join you.

If I am ever able to be as unsuccessful in life as you we can talk about the realization of living at one's mothers house and buying a CTD, lifting it, putting big tahrs on it, then realizing you can't afford to drive it when you live out in countrybumpkinville to drive to the "big city" after buying a house so you buy a shitbox. Then when you start driving a shitbox you realize you need to make it seem cool so you try to say how great it is. Maybe you miss sooting people that drive like asshats in little Lezbaru Impreza 2.5ReallySlows and get angst when people in big lifted CTDs soot you for being an asshat? I mean, that's one heck of a learning process.

In other words, have you realized that because you make consistently less worse financial decisions that doesn't mean that you've made the best one?
@Skooter_Built makes some interesting choices for sure. My suggestion along the way was to look at it more closely to see if it makes sense and to consider other options. You're suggestion along the way is that I'm developmentally disabled.

And I'm not saying I make the best choices either. I bought a brand new 2008 Pontiac G5 and sold it 6600 miles later for $19xx less than I paid for it. It was at a time when gas prices were high and we both thought we'd like driving a "fun" car with a manual transmission as she dropped me off at work on her way to work at the time. It turns out both of us hated driving a manual in traffic, the gas savings between it and the G6 were only about 11mpg, and we were paying more for insurance on it than the G6. Financially we were dead nuts even on having that car assuming we drove it for 2 years, except it was nice not to drive my gas guzzling 99 GMT800 when we both couldn't carpool. I had no idea we would actually pretty much hate driving that car... and yes it weighs less and makes more power than a Impreza 2.5RS. I even took the stupid nesting perch off the back because it looked dumb to have a spoiler on something that slow.

:sonicjay::sonicjay::sonicjay: I'm legitimately impressed how little of a clue you have. What brand of shovel do you prefer? That's something I'd like some advice on, cuz yours work fantastic.

Troll on my friend, troll on.

Let me know when you'd like me to redeem that cluepon you've got.

I prefer shovels with the tang on the back pointed the proper direction (away from you when using the shovel properly). I am partial to hickory handles. If that isn't descriptive enough I recommend upgrading from bare hands to a pointed stick, worry about advanced tooling later.

Always love a good cat fight.
Yes but this one is old. Can we just cover both cats in gas and see how long they continue bickerering with a open flame between them?

If you want something good on gas it is going to be slow.

If you want something fast it will require work to keep it reliable.

If you want a mix of the two it will be expensive, modern and full of electronics.

Be realistic with what you can get for what you got to spend. There will always be something better out there. The cheaper you go the more the number of better things grows.

Sometimes you just need to drive what gets you from a to b reliably. Gas mileage and 0 to 60 do not mean a dang thing if your stuck on the side of the road.

For around $1200 you can find a 10 to 15 year old reliable car on Craig's list after searching for a few days. Drive it home, insure, then drive it for a year or two until something expensive brakes. Tear it apart selling the engine and/or trans, seats, doors, rims, steering, dash, etc then scrap the rest for around $400 recoupe.

Enough screwing around back to work on the never ending project.

comparing a pontiac g5 to an impreza RS? That's cute.

It's entertaining if nothing more to read your posts, you're an epic troll.

God damn you really are a fucking dumbass. That is all I have to add to this thread. Now I'm going to go make some popcorn.:popcorn:
