I've got this new 2001 xj that we just swapped motors in. New alternator, battery. When we try to start it, the ASD (auto shut down) relay starts to buzz and the engine won't start, it just turns over. When we jump it (adding more juice to a new battery) it starts and runs just fine. Shut it off and it won't start back up unless you jump it again.

I figure it's just some easy fix and dumbass me is just not seeing it and I've been looking at it for so long that it is kicking my butt.

Any remedies before I take it to my local dealer and blow my hard earned dollars.

I just talked with the other guy working on it and he said that it may be the Crank position sensor, Does that sound right?

if its the crank sensor it wouldn't start even if you jumped it.

just because it will only start when you jump it I'll bet you the new parts are bad.
it happens more than you would think. have the battery load tested and check the output on the alternator.
