Have you used one with the autobalance? It seems like a nice idea that would be easier on the bearings and cutoff wheels but c'mon it's used to cut metal not slice butter. Does it matter?

I have never used one but it would be nice if it actually works. The vibrations from a grinder can be rough on your wrists over time. That may not be an issue for the average user but somebody like myself that uses them a lot it is a big deal.

Suck it up Nancy. My dad and grandpa haven't used them in the 90 years combined. Their hands aren't the problem.

Carpol tunnel (sp?) is a big issue with pipe welders. I know multiple that have had to have their wrists done and the doctors told them that grinders were probably the reason.

Huh, either they don't do grind enough to get that, or they are bamf's
That is the thing with pipe. You bevel, tack, grind tacks, root, wire wheel root, grind root, grind your start on your hot pass, wire wheel hot pass, grind your start on the cap, wire wheel cap. Them repeat...

I've used boat loads of the dewalt xp wheels. They are very good wheels IMO. The regular Dewalt wheels are marginal.

As for grinders I use mostly Metabos and Dewalts. I love my cordless 4.5's, but for heavy usage in the same area, I pull out the corded.

Where does everyone buy their metabos? We've had good luck with dewalt and Milwaukee.
It is a ways off from you but Performance Tool on Tele has them. I've had a craftsman for 30 years but noticed the housing was cracked this summer after I put a cup brush on it.Still works but bought a cheap HF for now. I have a big Milwaukee for serious grinding.

My cheapness and realization that I'm not a pro fabricator kicked in and I just bought another HF grinder. I spent the extra $5 for the "heavy duty" version and it's not a bad tool pretty much on par with my makita. I'm sure I would have been happy spending coin on the metabo but didn't want to wait to ship from amazon and I can buy 10 hf specials before breaking even on a metabo.

Metabo 4-1/2" ftw. Thrown in the dirt, sand mud snow, cold as fawk hot as fawk, I have cut thousands of pieces of bar with it and done more rubbing and patching walls than I care to recall. I bought mine at ace cutting in novi about 5 years ago. Expensive at first but a worthwhile investment considering I probably would have burnt up 5 or 6 dewalts by now.(I smoked two in one season prior to the metabo):thumb:
